Requested Edit edit

Requesting that we add a brief notice if a Wikipedia article exists with the same name as the Draft.

--HectorMoffet (talk) 23:21, 24 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

 • Should this also note if there is an existing draft with the same name in "Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation"? Should there be a series of helpful links to things like WP:REFBEGIN? Let's work up a good helpful edit notice then create it. :D Technical 13 (talk) 23:50, 24 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Great point-- so, adding a link to Articles for Creation articles.
.|}}
Any ideas on other helpful additions to the text? This is just a stopgap-- I suspect staff involved in the new user experience probably create more polished text. --HectorMoffet (talk)
Would the notice differentiate between articles and redirects?--TriiipleThreat (talk) 17:19, 19 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Transclusion edit

The template says:

PAGENAME}}

This causes the AfC page to be transcluded instead of linked. Please change it into

Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/PAGENAME

which removes the transclusion. --Stefan2 (talk) 01:08, 25 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

"This page has a page in WT:AFC/ space" edit

If a page in the Draft namespace has a page in the prefix Wikipedia talk:Articles for Creation/PAGENAME the "This page has a page in WPAFC space" notice shows up. Code needs to be added to this sub-notice so that pages that exist in the old WPAFC space as a redirect to the page that is invoking the request (i.e. The WPFAC page exists as a redirect to the page itself). Barring this not being able to be done, I request that the "This page has a page in WPAFC space" check be disabled as this only causes confusion for new editors who may have started the draft in the old location and now are in the new location or reviewers who are looking for possible "better versions". CC Technical 13 (since your templateFu is much stronger than mine). Hasteur (talk) 12:56, 9 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

The example I give as to this not working as desired is Draft:Brendan O'Sullivan (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) Hasteur (talk) 12:57, 9 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Probably simpler just to check if it's a redirect (never mind the target) and omit the message.   Done, try that — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 13:23, 9 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Template-protected edit request on 11 September 2014 edit

I'd like to add find sources to the page bottom to aid work of myself and other people on their drafts. Gryllida (talk) 22:27, 11 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Isn't that redundant to the "Find sources" in the AfC banner that's (supposed to be) on every draft? Jackmcbarn (talk) 22:37, 11 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
No. I'm sure some people like to work on drafts without submitting them anywhere. --Gryllida (talk) 22:53, 11 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Protected edit request on 23 January 2017 edit

Remove the code {{#ifexist:Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/PAGENAME |

This is no longer required. Per WP:Requested moves/Old AFC submissions, all drafts in the WT:AFC subspace have been moved to draft namespace. Even CSD G13 has now been updated to remove mention of WT:AFC drafts. 103.6.159.93 (talk) 05:41, 23 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

message freaks out new and experienced editors editors edit

Per 1 the editnotice is confusing and does not help new or even experienced users who edit drafts. Pointing out that an article with the same title already exists in mainspace is likely helpful. Can it be restored to do that? --Vexations (talk) 21:46, 6 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Please remove the G7 notice box. In the 2017 wikitext editor and VisualEditor, editnotices are displayed like pop-ups and hence useless ones like these are extremely annoying. I note that the box was added by now-banned Technical 13 apparently w/o any discussion, 4 years ago. While the information given is true, I question why it is needed since the prospect of author requesting deletion is rather rare. Even before an editor starts creating a draft, we are telling them how it get it deleted if they no longer want it? Ridiculous. SD0001 (talk) 06:43, 7 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

I have just added a link to the diff of the article in mainspace (if it exists). Hope this useful, and please let me know of any issues — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:26, 16 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
