My Family's Slave edit

  • ... that an article is written about the family of a journalist who kept a slave for 56 years? Source: "When I arrived, I would hand over all that was left of the woman who had spent 56 years as a slave in my family’s household." (The Atlantic)

Created by Tataral (talk). Nominated by Shhhhwwww!! (talk) at 19:29, 23 May 2017 (UTC).

  • @Shhhhwwww!!: Date and length (just!) fine. However I do have a few issues with the hook. First the hook isn't cited inline, second shouldn't the hook read "...the Atlantic told the story about..."? Also a QPQ is needed. No close paraphrasing. Once the above issues are responded too, then ping me and I'll take another look. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 14:25, 4 June 2017 (UTC)
  • I don't think there's a need for past tense. The article still exists, you can still read it, so it still tells a story, even though its author is dead. — Kpalion(talk) 06:59, 5 June 2017 (UTC)
  • It has been over two weeks since the above review, and the nominator has edited this page since the reviews. Further, the nomination was made over four weeks ago and the required QPQ has not yet been supplied, despite being active elsewhere in the interim. This is a final call for action to be taken on addressing the issues raised. BlueMoonset (talk) 14:02, 22 June 2017 (UTC)

@BlueMoonset , currently reviewing Aiptasia pallida -- Shhhhwwww!! (talk) 18:52, 22 June 2017 (UTC)

Special request: Can this appear on the 4th of July occassion? Shhhhwwww!! (talk) 19:32, 22 June 2017 (UTC)
Issues have been fixed, good to go. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 05:10, 23 June 2017 (UTC)
  • I agree with The C of E's original assessment of the hook; it wastes a lot of words referring to where the article was published instead of focusing on the topic. Also, the article barely scrapes by the 1500-char minimum. Also, I wonder if this topic even meets Wikipedia's notability standards? The magazine article was just published this month. It received a few reviews. Does it even meet GNG? Yoninah (talk) 20:58, 24 June 2017 (UTC)
  • I've struck ALT1 because it strains the limits of English ("an article is written"). I'm in a grumpy mood so not suggesting what to do about it. EEng 18:20, 4 July 2017 (UTC)
  • ALT2 ... that an article caused controversy because it is about a journalist's family which kept a slave for 56 years? Sources: "When I arrived, I would hand over all that was left of the woman who had spent 56 years as a slave in my family’s household." (The Atlantic); "Meanwhile, other people—in this case, non-Filipinos—are angry at Tizon and The Atlantic for publishing his story and what they perceive is the humanization of a “slave owner.”" (Scout magazine) Shhhhwwww!! (talk) 04:11, 7 July 2017 (UTC)
Looks like the article is going to be sustained.
Suggest ALT3: "... that the family of Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Alex Tizon kept a slave for 56 years? --Usernameunique (talk) 03:21, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
  • @Usernameunique: Now, that's a hook!!! Waiting for AFD to close so I can approve it. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 11:17, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
  • The article has outlasted AFD. Approving ALT3, which is hooky, verified, and cited inline. ALT3 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 18:23, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
