Lin Mei-hong, Gian Carlo Michelini

  • ... that Lin Mei-hong was a member of the Lanyang Dance Troupe founded by Gian Carlo Michelini and later worked with the troupe as a choreographer? Source: "... Lin Mei-hong—one of the returnees from Europe and currently one of his top choreographers. Now 30, Lin has maintained her close connection with Lan Yang for two decades. She was a troupe member for 10 years, beginning when she was only 10 years old." (Young Amateurs With A Mission)

Reviewing her for now. Interesting life, on good sources, no copyvio obvious. Hook: I don't know any of the names, sorry, but know Pina Bausch. As much of her career was in Germany, how about saying something about that. Mention Taiwan also, perhaps? I'd also suggest you use some pronoun establishing that it's a woman, - how would we know? Perhaps Gian Carlo Michelini would be better served by a hook of his own? He certainly needs more lead, - just reading priest, I thought I landed at the wrong article. - Her article: I'd write a bit more summary to begin. I wonder about mentioning authors for the works she adapted, such as: Carl Orff's Carmina burana, or do people have to know who wrote Bernarda Alba? How do you feel about an infobox? - I may look at him later. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:16, 9 October 2019 (UTC)
With a bit more time, now about him: Interesting life on good sources, Japanese source accepted AGF. I really believe he should have a hook of his own, with such an unusual life, priest and dance troupe founder ;) - Think about it. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:27, 9 October 2019 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: I'm glad this nomination caught your eye, and thank you for locating German wikilinks. I've expanded the lede (with infobox) for both articles, and mentioned the titles of notable works produced by Lin in the article and lede about her. I prefer to keep things concise. If readers wish to know who contributed to the original works, wikilinks are provided.
Regarding a separate hook for Michelini: I suppose that his dual citizenship status is interesting, but it would require knowledge of Taiwanese nationality law, and it is difficult to set up the necessary prior context without making the hook wordy. The first Italian tour of his Lanyang Dance Troupe is also interesting, but that fact is about his troupe, not Michelini himself. This is why I opted to combine hooks for Lin and Michelini. Emphasizing an article's subject's links to Taiwan is much easier for me, as I don't often write about arts. My other arts-related contributions, Lo Man-fei and Allen Yu, both have a Taiwan connection. If an arts hook has potential, please point me in that direction with further discussion. Thanks again for the review. Vycl1994 (talk) 16:42, 9 October 2019 (UTC)
Understand, so I approve it as it is, with thanks for your changes to the articles. If you change your mind - an Italian priest founding a dance troupe in Taiwan seems unusual enough - we'll find a way. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:43, 9 October 2019 (UTC)
ALT1 ... that Lin Mei-hong attended the first classes held by the Lanyang Dance Troupe, founded in Taiwan by the Italian priest Gian Carlo Michelini? source: "Young Amateurs with a Mission", quote: "Fr. Michelini points.at a picture on the wall of the first Lan Yang class. He indicates a little girl named Lin Mei-hong—one of the returnees from Europe and currently one of his top choreographers."
@Gerda Arendt: I hate making more work for you, but some time off of this nomination has allowed me to look at it a more open mind. As a result, I've come up with another hook. If you are willing to do so, please consider ALT1 above. Vycl1994 (talk) 03:14, 22 October 2019 (UTC)
Thank you, that's great, and preferred. Still missing the German revolutionary dance, but we should keep hooks shhort ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:22, 22 October 2019 (UTC)
  • Pulling from prep per a discussion at WT:DYK. A new hook or a rewording of ALT1 may need to be proposed. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 04:54, 4 November 2019 (UTC)
  • To help this move along, below is a suggestion on a possible direction (can be changed, or a new proposal could be considered instead)
ALT2 ... that the Italian priest Gian Carlo Michelini founded a dance troupe in Taiwan, with Lin Mei-hong being among its first members?
With that said, I'm not really sure if the mention of Lin is necessary at this point, and I'm slightly leaning towards a separate hook for Lin instead. With Michelini, if the citizenship thing mentioned above can't be used, we could always focus on him being Italian and a priest but being the founder of a dance troupe in Taiwan. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 05:00, 4 November 2019 (UTC)
  • A possibility for a combined hook still:
ALT3 ... that, aged ten, choreographer Lin Mei-hong joined a dance troupe in Taiwan founded by the Italian priest Gian Carlo Michelini?
Or, possible separate hooks:
ALT4 ... that the Italian priest Gian Carlo Michelini founded a dance troupe in Taiwan?
ALT5 ... that Taiwanese choreographer Lin Mei-hong has received the German Artist of the Year Award?
RebeccaGreen (talk) 06:43, 4 November 2019 (UTC)
I think ALT4 and ALT5 have potential, but I'd like to ask first Vycl1994 if they would be fine with separate hooks for Michelini and Lin. Otherwise, ALT3 is a good option too. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 16:05, 4 November 2019 (UTC)
@RebeccaGreen and Narutolovehinata5: Much thanks for your efforts on this nomination. Both solo hooks sound good, and remain true to the sources, (ALT4, ALT5) but I still favor the combined ALT3. Vycl1994 (talk) 17:39, 4 November 2019 (UTC)
Sorry to spoil the fun, but at age ten, she was no choreographer (ALT3), and the award should be linked (ALT5). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:09, 4 November 2019 (UTC)
Gerda's statement is also fair and accurate, so I propose: Standalone ALT 4 for Michelini. Regarding Lin: The Artist of the Year Award article does not seem to exist and therefore cannot be linked. Therefore:

I'm slightly sad to give up on the combined hook, but perhaps it's the way forward. Vycl1994 (talk) 21:51, 4 November 2019 (UTC)

  • If a combined hook is still wanted, various modifications could deal with Gerda Arendt's objection to ALT3:
Thank you, BlueMoonset. Taking into account Narutolovehinata5's point regarding the positioning of Michelini within the hook, I prefer ALT3b. Vycl1994 (talk) 18:07, 14 November 2019 (UTC)
approving ALT3b, striking all others, thanks for help and patience. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:33, 14 November 2019 (UTC)
