editRevision
editI rewrited Zile using Turkish Wikipedia as primary referance. I may made some language errors and if someone can edit them,I will be very glad.Ugur Olgun 18:18, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
Copy edit??
editif nobody disagrees, I would like to remove copyedit tag.Ugur Olgun 19:27, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
- I think the article still needs a light copyedit. I will ask a user to check it out. —Khoikhoi 19:44, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
The comments
editUser:Ugur Olgun asked at the wikipedia irc channel to look through the article, and leave some comments. I happily agreed and added a few comments. I put some in the wiki-code, so if someone wonders what they are, they're from me. You probably should remove them in a day or two, just if someone wonders what they are. infobox?
editAs fas as I observed the usage of infobox and its contents is specially designed for provinces. However Zile is not a province but a city in Tokat province. Infobox also gives wrong information about Zile. I removed it temporarily since it makes page seem ugly.Ugur Olgun 23:15, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
- I've never seen the template ({{Infobox town TR}}) used in province articles, only in articles about Turkish towns and cities. Would you be able to point me to articles where this isn't the case? Khoikhoi 23:38, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
- I see it in Tokat and Denizli article and Tokat and Denizli are provinces (There are many other examples). In fact this infobox is copied from Tokat article. Website is wrong and image given in the infobox is not appropriate for this article. If he is insistent on putting that infobox, he should provide full and right information and also look to the page. Kusyuva image is awful now and again image in the infobox is not appropriate since it is only a map, not a picture from town.Ugur Olgun 16:34, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- No, the Tokat and Denizli articles are about the cities, and the Tokat Province and Denizli Province articles are about the provinces. If there are problems with the infobox here, you can just correct them. If the images are bad, we can remove them. However, these infoboxes are used for Turkish cities, and we should therefore have one on this article, just like we do on İstanbul and İzmir. Khoikhoi 20:25, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
Rating
editThis article is pretty good actually, it's got a map, photos a city template.. It could use a few more inline citations thought per WP:CITE.. Good job though! Baristarim 20:04, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Merge
editSomeone has proposed a merge, and I concur - they should be merged. Baristarim 18:29, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
Some suggestions
editWas asked to provide some suggestions as to how to improve further, so here are a few ideas. Overall, the article looks to be coming along well, keep up the good work!
- Some statements need attribution, and are currently done as "some say" or the like. (For example, in the first paragraph of the "History" heading, "Some etymologists say that..."). Such statements should be referenced and attributed to who stated so.
- For the climate section, it would be good to integrate some information into the prose such as average temperature, average annual snowfall (rather than just saying the winters are "snowy"), and so on. The wikitable in the section serves some of those purposes, but it never hurts to have it in the prose either!
- Some copyediting was needed in the geography section for grammar, syntax, redundancy, and clarity. Might want to look to see if I missed anything.
- The demographics section only has a bit of basic data referenced. References on, for example, the migration data, information on religion in the area (no regular Christian services being held, etc.), and the like would be very useful. (Some of the rest of the paragraph may also be referenced in the census data.)
- More specific data on the economy would be very useful (average annual production, what percentage of the population is engaged in producing what, etc.). Again, references would be very helpful here. Census data might contain a lot of that information, as might city records. Also, some more information on the joint tourism program with the EU (how did the program turn out? Has tourism increased? Did the EU do any followup as to the results?) would be great for that section. Also, the tense in that section is contradictory (the opening sentence says the EU "had" a program, indicating that it's now ended, but another sentence says it "is funded" by the EU, indicating that it's still ongoing.) I can't read the source used for that, so I'll leave correcting that to someone who can.
- For the "media and social life" section, some more information on the media in the area would be great, if available.
- While non-English sources are certainly fine, so long as they meet the normal reliability guidelines, some more English-language sourcing, if available, wouldn't hurt.
Overall, looks to be doing well, and hope some of these suggestions are helpful! Seraphimblade Talk to me 06:30, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
The Lead - population figures, district vs. city
editThe population figures do not need to be in the lead, they are appropriate in the info box and the demographics section. Population figures are just distracting in the lead. Also, when an article is discussing both a city and a district it is valuable to keep in mind which one is being talked about. The sentence "Turhal, Çekerek, Artova, Kadışehri, and Amasya are all towns located near Zile." probable doesn't belong in the lead. If those towns are in the district, then a subsection entitled Administrative or such-like would be where they belong. If they are trading partners they belong in Economics, and if they are adjacent districts they might go in Geography. Instead of that sentence in the lead, you might say something about the notability of the district. Lastly, a city is seldom a center for agriculture. It may have agricultural markets, manufacturing of agricultural equipment, or things like that. Agriculture usually occurs in rural areas. --Bejnar 02:32, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Zile coat of arms.JPG
editImage:Zile coat of arms.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

City size
edit"Zile covers an area of 1,512 square kilometres (584 sq mi) within its city limits". This does seem rather large for a city of 52,000 people. That's 24 miles x 24 miles (39km x 39km), a huge city. Can this be checked please? Or perhaps it refers to the city and its surrounding region? Kanjuzi (talk) 16:48, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
