(Sailing) edit

Isn't it also a type of sail? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.77.17.14 (talk) 19:47, 4 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

    I removed the entry
* A fore-sail flying above and forward of the jib, usually seen on bowsprit vessels.
(not bcz of its 3 links, which are unacceptable in a Dab entry, but) bcz WP never mentions "Yankee rig" (which has 240 Google hits, and bcz the mention of "Yankee pair" is incompatible with the above lexicographic entry. Dab entries exist to give access to encyclopedic info, not to substitute for dictionaries. Do the homework needed to create a stub-worth of info on "Yankee" in context of sail lore, then add an entry pointing to it.

Screwdriver edit

    I removed this wretched entry:

* Trademark for tools including push-type spiral ratchet screwdriver, push-type drill, and other tools made by North Brothers Manufacturing Company and, after that company's sale in 1946, by The Stanley Works

for reasons similar to those i cite in #(Sailing) above (Stanley Black & Decker doesn't mention either N. Bros or "Yankee"), independent of the inadmissibility of an external lk on a Dab pg, let alone one to a copyright certification.

Refs-to-Americans senses edit

Presumably the prose i removed is at Yankee, since it is dedicated to the term, but that article and the massive and unacceptable prose distracted me from the fact of articles relevant to several senses. Just be clear: Dab entries do not clarify meanings (let alone origins), they simply distinguish competing meanings, and stop when that is done.

Japanese word for delinquent. edit

Juvenile delinquents that roam around in groups terrorizing japan are called yankees. This is not a minor occurrence of the term. I for one think it deserves it's own entry and should be part of the disambiguation , not a lone line in the article that refers to US yankees . they have their own culture , way of life , code of conduct , much like gangs allover the world. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.101.83.4 (talk) 08:46, 4 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
