Xanthos Coordinates Incorrect edit

I believe the Lat/Lon coordinates posted on this Xanthos page are incorrect. Curiously, the same error is made on the Geographical Names page at the following link.

The posted 36 20 06 N 29 19 13 E is incorrect. I believe 36 21 36 N 29 19 10 E is correct.

I verified my coordinates using aerial images on Google Earth and Garmin Mapsource Bluechart Atlantic 95 maps. The Xanthos ruins are unmistakable from the Google Earth aerial image.

Agreed the given co-ordinates are definitely incorrect, they are pointing to the nearby modern town of Kınık, but your co-ordinates are not pointing to the centre of the site, you have the North-West corner of the city wall. The exact co-ordinates depend on what you consider to be the city centre: suggestions;

I have changed the article to my first suggestion, feel free to use yours instead if you think it is better. The source of the error seems to be the World Heritage Convention page for Xanthos-Letoon. The co-ordinate would appear to be some kind of "average" between the ancient city of Xanthos and the sanctuary of Leto (known as Letoon) with the arrow actually hitting neither of these sites. I don't think so. I've never seen it. If I run across any I will put this back but attribute it to the source: so-and-so uses Xanthos to mean ... etc.Dave (talk) 05:10, 24 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
