Merge 2 articles into this one? edit

I propose merging List of cities with over one million inhabitants and the population chart in Megacity (which could then be transculded) into this list and using the more recent statistics in those articles. The reason I want to merge them is because they overlap a lot. The reason I propose merging into this one is because it has a lot more readership. • Oppose Megacity there isn't any need to simply merge "per larger viewership" when the distinction of other articles is well defined. Respublik (talk) 10:16, 16 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I don't mean the whole article, I mean this section of the page. OrdinaryGiraffe (talk) 15:51, 16 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Not entirely clear what you propose. Reasons to oppose are:
    • The List article is already rather long.
    • It would not be possible to merge the two tables, as the result would be much too unwieldy.---Ehrenkater (talk) 10:24, 16 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Can you explain? The main chart in List of cities with over one million inhabitants has 456 entries. Because the other charts effectively use 5 million and 10 million, it would amount to moving the 456 entries here and then reformating to incorprate the other charts. I don't think it'd be much bigger than the cities with over one million chart right now. OrdinaryGiraffe (talk) 15:50, 16 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
To clarify what I mean: here's a demostration (with some work still needed) of what I propose.
I might as well add my reasons for this merge: The tables overlap (one is 1 million +, which inculdes the other two, one is 5 million +, and one is 10 million +), this particular list could use some more up-to-date data (not in my demo because it's really annoying to merge), and, as can be seen below and above the current criteria in this list (not fixed in demo) is confusing. I agree that it is not possible to merge both lists because they are too different in style and substance. My idea would be to change the title of the List section with city proper, urban area and metro population into "Overview" and add the list of the million-plus cities below it with some explanation.--Afus199620 (talk) 20:17, 16 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Can we delete this request? It's nonsensical and will make things unweildy. 2401:7000:CB35:8900:349B:5597:48E7:70D3 (talk) 10:42, 20 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Sydney, Australia is missing og the list 109.81.173.254 (talk) 18:53, 16 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Per source provided, Sydney was "a medium-sized city with 1 to 5 million inhabitants" in 2018. As the request doesn't include any new reliable source, it's impossible to complete the request. Respublik (talk) 14:33, 18 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

change Delhi to National Capital Region (NCR). It more accurately represents the largest metropolitan area in India. Pull the numbers previously referenced in the the wikipedia article-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_metropolitan_areas_in_India

The source has been cited in the same list.

although this metric dwarfs the other cities on the list, the rapid growth of National Capital Region (NCR) in India, interchangeably used with Delhi, more accurately reflects the daily life of citizens of the region who must often travel as much as 10,000 km just to get to work, meet family or sell their wares. Singh180 (talk) 05:12, 13 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Not done: NCR is not a city, it is a rural-urban planning region containing multiple cities. The UN population estimate (~28 million) is the metropolitan region of Delhi, which includes parts of the NCR outside of the city proper. Travel is irrelevant; people travel between cities and other settlements all the time – that does not make them part of the same city. Irltoad (talk) 13:45, 14 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Don't put two items in same table cells edit

I click to sort on metropolitan area population... and where is New York? Down below, because the two items in the same HTML table cell wreck the sort! Jidanni (talk) 13:05, 20 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
