American Woolies edit

The South African Woolworths company has nothing to do with American Woolworths. Marc and Spencer use to trade in SA but because of sanctioned they couldn't continue.

M&S never traded in SA. Woolworths has had a close relationship with M&S since 1947 and adopted it's retail principles, but apart from some occasional M&S product merchandised by Woolworths, M&S has never had any business operations in SA. M&S did own c12% of Woolworths in the 50's and early 60's — Preceding unsigned comment added by Buddocaster (talkcontribs) 12:15, 4 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Did this company *ever* have anything to do with the "original" American Woolworth's? Fourohfour 13:32, 28 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

The company was named after the American company. (Because of the trademark laws at the time, this was legal.) The companies have never been financially associated though. The Auustralian Woolworth's has the same situation.RevelationDirect (talk) 06:47, 11 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
