Professional life
editThe article should have a section about women's possibility to have a profession, and in that case, which professions.--Aciram (talk) 18:58, 22 February 2017 (UTC)
Women: Social Life
editthere is a significant lack of information on women in the ottoman empire and their social life, there are only a few brief and vague sentences on their social life. I plan to expand on the women's social life and give a more depth look into how the women were thought of as well as what "social life" meant for the women. I will be taking most my information from, Pamela Dorn Sezgin and her article, Jewish Women in the Ottoman Empire. Some additions I would make for example, women during that time period were seen as half important in comparison to men and you were able to see this during court-witness situations. Also, women were only able to socialize with family and their community in contrast to men who were able to socialize with anyone in the public. Although women were able to be in public Sezgin discusses that they were only allowed in public during certain times in the day as well as they had to be in groups, never alone. In addition to women's social life i would like to add info on their work life as well for it seems to be lacking in that as well. The term, kortijo meaning, interior courtyard is where these women would spend most of their day doing chores and or embroidering, which was considered their "work life".
if anyone would like to comment on these changes feel free to let me know on this talk page, or on my talk page. Kailey1234 (talk) 17:52, 16 November 2017 (UTC) [1]
- Hi Kailey1234, it looks like you are using a source on Jewish women, so how would you make claims on all women? Thanks. Chapmansh (talk) 21:07, 27 November 2017 (UTC)

Make part of "Women in society" Series
editShould this article have an info box linking it to the "Women in society" series? I'm comparing this page to the Women in ancient Rome page.Mcps39 (talk) 01:47, 19 July 2018 (UTC)
- I'm not involved in the Women in society talk box/project but I think that seems like a good idea.Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 21:17, 22 July 2018 (UTC)
This page needs a major rewrite
editThe current state of this page is quite a bit of a mess. It ventures into presentism quite often, and at some points has a very Eurocentric point of view. Some sections are better than others in this respect, particularly the later sections, but the first section makes some very questionable claims, a lot of which are not cited. The use of language and encyclopedic tone is a whole another story. I am adding the multiple issues template on the article, as I currently don't have the time to fix everything, but I might be able to at some point, meanwhile if anyone has the time, please do not be afraid to make bold edits.
