AFD edit

Shouldn't this be marked for deletion? We don't need to give every single song in the world it's own wikipage. And even if we did, we can't post the lyrics so the would all be meaningless stubs. -WarthogDemon 04:44, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

No, but for most bands, there are pages for most of their singles, and Window in the Skies is set to be released as the second single for U218, the first being The Saints are Coming, which is already released- DE

There seems to have been a lot to discuss about many songs, for most U2 songs have their own pages, and not that many are stubs.

I would wait for official confirmation before posting that image as the cover MelicansMatkin
That's the promo cover. I think it's ok to leave it there until we get the commercial single cover. --Kristbg 11:29, 30 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
I stand corrected, I hadn't realized that it was the promo cover. Thanks for the information MelicansMatkin 16:25, 30 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
It's now the official cover according to U2.com http://www.u2.com/highlights/?hid=329 Phillies26 00:15, 7 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Tracklisting edit

Is it true that Kite (Live) is going to be on there, because I thought it was confirmed that Zoo Station (Live) and Miss Sarajevo (Live) along with Tower of Song were the b-sides, but Miss Sarajevo has been replaced by Kite... are there citations on this?

http://www.u2.com/highlights/?hid=329

The tracks for all of them straight from U2.com. Phillies26 00:15, 7 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Citation edit

Why is there a citation on the part where it says that 'Window In the Sky' is said at the end. For anyone who has heard the song (they are playing it all the time on Virgin Radio and other Radio Stations) it is in fact true. Koolgiy 03:33, 11 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I added that citation. It was intended to be a citation needed for when it said "it was previosuly called 'Oh Can't You See' by fans." I have readded that citation needed in a more appropriate place.MelicansMatkin 23:10, 20 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yes, {{Fact}} tag should remain, if not cited soon, we can remove the statement. Wikipedia should not be based on overheard fan rumours. and i am not sure that statement is that notable anyway even if it can be cited. --Merbabu 23:56, 20 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

List of performers appearing in video edit

Per the article's History page, it appears that additional info about who appears in the video is being edited and/or deleted. There is a comment from Y2kcrazyjoker4 saying "there's a reason we cut this section down significantly already - it should not be a comprehensive list". Can you please explain why you don't think there should be a list of who appears in the video? The purpose of this article is to discuss the song and I would assume the related video, is it not? Z00ropean 23:46, 28 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps having a second by second recount of the video is not relevant as the article about the song not video (though it should be mentioned in the article). Having everything about the video could lead to having the section balloon (The Clash, clip of 3 seconds in the video at XX:XX, are performing live 12 May 1980 in New York playing etc. etc.). On the other hand this is an encyclopedia and should include all the facts. Go figure. feydey 01:30, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I disagree; an encyclopedia should not have ALL the facts. It should have notable facts only. Granted, the great thing about wikipedia is that there is a space for a whole lot more notabe facts than say a paper encyclopedia, but that still doesn't mean we should put in everything. Wikipedia is not a list of every single fact. The idea of that section is that it should convey the idea of a whole lot of artists and if it has to, it should list a few. Maybe we can put an approximate number on it. How about cut ALL artists' names and just say "50 (or how many it is) famous musical artists/performers appear in the clip"?Merbabu 02:12, 29 December 2006 (UTC) I will ask Y2kcrazyjoker4 to comment too. Merbabu 02:12, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I agree with Merbabu. An encyclopedia article on "Window in the Skies" should not recount the song's music video in such detail that we are naming every music artist that appears in it (and there's about 50 artists, too). The idea of an article is to convey only the important facts; naming a few artists gives the reader the gist of what the music video is supposed to portray. Besides, a huge long list of artists makes the section unnecessarily long and discourages people from reading it. Y2kcrazyjoker4 03:33, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
There's a guideline for that. Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. My suggestion is putting a sentence like "there are about 50 artists featured in the video, ranging from Louie Armstrong to The White Stripes". --Kristbg 11:31, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
ha ha - "Louis Armstrong to the White Stripes". nice! Seriously though, it is actually a good suggestion. --Merbabu 11:40, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
It would be then nice to have an ext. link for the full list, so if someone wishes to see who are in the video they can. feydey 15:42, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Suggested article title: List of performers, footage of whom appears in the promotional video for Windows In The Sky (U2 song)? ;-) That just gets back to listing every non-notable fact. THere's an article somewhere called "Wikipedia is Not Toilet Paper" which i can't find right now - would have been useful.--Merbabu 15:58, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
UPDATE: my apologies. Last night i misread Feydey's comment as an "article" for a full list of performers, not a request for an "external link". Sorry --Merbabu 00:47, 30 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I will respect the wishes of the Editors. As suggested, an (eventual) external link on the complete contents of the video might be beneficial. Z00ropean 18:03, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I think that might have been a joke- there really is no precedent on Wikipedia to devoting a separate article to the music video of single. Nor is there a reason why we should- the music video for "Window in the Skies" really isn't that notable (at least at this point). Y2kcrazyjoker4 00:14, 30 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thriller (music video) apparently has (the first one I guessed) an article. And there is also Category:Music_videos. Best, feydey 03:33, 30 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
There are far more than you think, naves.Even the most cursory search using intelligent search terms reveals Karma Police (music video),Karmacoma (music video),The Universal (music video),Love Reflection (music video),Coffee & TV (music video), and so on.Someday there will be One (first music video), One (second music video), One (third music video)!192.102.82.253 03:09, 4 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Precedence is the worst of all justifications. Merbabu 11:16, 4 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, if we're not going to put it in the articles, could we at least find a site that has listed them all and put a link to that site? that way we can have the information w/o taking up to much space.--71.62.178.53 03:48, 21 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I added a link to a list I found with a quick search, feel free to replace with a better one. feydey 10:21, 21 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

The complete list of musicians appearing in the video should be listed here, in the true spirit of Wikipedia. We searched the internet for a more comprehensive list, to no avail. Therefore, we inserted a comprehensive list. Wikipedia remained the most logical place to maintain one, especially as Wikipedia's "Window in the Skies" page appears among the top google hits for people searching for artists shown in the video. It is not "indiscriminate" to maintain this list of artist information on Wikipedia -- just like it's not indiscriminate to list all 50 states on Wikipedia. This is an extremely unusual video, collecting rare, copyrighted archival footage of many brilliant performers. This data is encyclopedic and necessarily should be listed here.

Per the consensus above such a list is not feasible. Please to not dump this indiscriminate info to the article. Thanks, feydey 11:51, 20 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Feydey - you got in before me. Please respect other editors views. Whatever "spirit of WIkipedia" you are talking about must be an evil one.Merbabu 11:52, 20 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
I don't know, Feydey. Your esoteric list of "ocean exploration" seems subjective and indiscriminate. Do I catch a whiff of a double standard? I guess that's the power of being an editor with a contrary opinion. My only recourse is to stack up a huge, self-congratulatory User Page and stand on the shoulders of Giants to get my way. Wta.gdp

Video for the song link edit

GassyGuy (talk · contribs) removed the link to the video of the song stating: "rv - that video is also copyrighted". No one denies that it isn't copyrighted, otherwise we should remove almost ALL external links. U2 has released the video for viewing on Youtube so what would be the problem in linking to it? feydey 15:38, 31 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Video #2 edit

It appears that there's a new/old? video out for this song... featuring montages of old pictures of the band along with surreal imagery (flying buildings, etc.) -- all in black & white. Is this a new video or old, and should it be mentioned along with the "artists montage" video? Amnewsboy 08:49, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

What is this song about? edit

--86.143.186.183 09:50, 13 March 2007 (UTC)I would like to know what this song is about? I have a pretty good idea but i would like to know for definate, does anyone know or know where i can get that information? It is a proper good tune!86.143.186.183 09:50, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

According to The Edge it is reference to Easter morning and the moving of the stone from the tomb of Christ. The "love left a window in the skies" refers to the act of Christ offering a way to heaven through his love.
