William Richards Castle, Jr. is an interesting case. Although he he held a "career appointment" with the State Department, he rose meteorically in the government, in large part due to his political connections. Nonetheless, given his significance in pre-WWII foreign policy, he deserves to be recalled.

Huh? Was he "career", only served 11 years and the state department web site does not think so.
