The article on U.S. Ambassadors to Afghanistan credits William Harrison Hornibrook as the first U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan, appointed on January 22, 1935 and serving while concurrently Ambassador to Persia. This article mentions his service to Iran but makes no mention of his appointment or service to Afghanistan.
