Problematic Harmon Foundation work edit

The Harmon Foundation funded over a decade of documentary filming in Africa by Ray and Virginia Garner. The Garners made Africans remove the clothes they wore so that they might look more primitive and thus in line with the expectations of American audiences. (But if you can't add that, please at least change the header capitalization to Sentence case rather than Title Case. I'm avoiding article editing at this point, or I'd do it myself.) --Nat Gertler (talk) 15:44, 6 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

If you want to add a "controversy" section to the Harmon Foundation page, that would be great. There are all sorts of complexities that this article does not currently address. My personal opinion is that, as one of the first significant funding sources for African-American endeavors in the eight fields in which the Foundation awards prizes and recognition, this is a significant topic and is deserving of more comprehensive treatment.

Two problems with that: we are discouraged from having separate "controversy" sections, and I know of no source expressing a controversy over this part of their history. We have documentation that it happened; we don't yet have documentation that anyone has complained. (And again, I am avoiding article editing at this time.) -- Nat Gertler (talk) 06:22, 1 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Article on William E. Harmon edit

I've created William E. Harmon; it is not deep but there may be some sources there of use here. (Or maybe not!) -- Nat Gertler (talk) 20:10, 1 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
