Notability edit

requires that there is significant coverage in reliable sources. But all we have here is incidental coverage in minor publications. To put it another way, if this conference wouldn't be related to Wikipedia but say would be a conference of cancer researchers or economists, would we cover it? Almost surely not. Should go to AFD once it is off the main page. Pantherskin (talk) 12:59, 19 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Please cite proper policy first. It has got a good amount of coverage in media. ♛♚★Vaibhav Jain★♚♛ Talk Email 15:33, 19 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Please see WP:NOTABILITY - you need to provide evidence of significant coverage. Press releases, and being mentioned in an event calendar do not make the cut. There also appears to be a conflict of interest, not to mention that we usually avoid self-reference on Wikipedia. Can you provide any source that this event is more significant and notable than any of the thousands of conferences going on in each and every month around the world? rename edit

A suggestion to rename this article to Wiki Conference India 2011. --Rameshng (talk) 18:03, 21 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

For Wikimania events we have one article. Let's see what others have got to say. -- ɑηsuмaη ʈ ᶏ ɭ Ϟ 19:11, 21 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Let us keep it as Wiki Conference India. Each year article may not merit notability. Let us hope we could organise this every year :) -- Tinu Cherian - 14:11, 22 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Same as Tinu, rename can be done once we can organize one more conference next year. ♛♚★Vaibhav Jain★♚♛ Talk Email 14:16, 22 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
I'd suggest a restructure once the 2012 event is scheduled, confirmed and has been commented on by the press. As with Wikimania each year would get a section, but that structure wouldn't make sense as long as there is just one year. ϢereSpielChequers 05:21, 23 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
I suggest that this article be to renamed to Wiki Conference India 2011. What's the problem if we have another article for Wiki Conference India 2012? Hindustanilanguage (talk) 11:27, 23 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
WCI 2012 is still a year away :), and we don't know whether we'll have another one (hope we do have). In short, whatever WhereSpielChequers said. Lynch7 12:30, 23 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • Support for name retention and restructuring after 2012 Conference announced vide WereSpielChequers. Each Conference need not be a separate article, no particular encyclopedic value or individual notability for each Conference. AshLin (talk) 16:54, 23 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • Support for retention of general title. A fork can be created for individual articles on a need based basis. Yogesh Khandke (talk) 02:27, 14 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Cult of Jimmy Wales? edit

There are four references and three photographs of Mr. Wales. Isn't that a little too excessive? Though Jimmy Wales is a notable participant, he is internal to Wikipedia; so is Barry, can't we have less of him and more of other external notable participants? Yogesh Khandke (talk) 02:21, 14 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yes, you are right. There is no mention of other notable participants in the article. I see Arnab Goswami Category:WikiConference_India_2011, who else ? -- ɑηsuмaη ʈ ᶏ ɭ Ϟ 04:34, 14 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
Last edit was was mine, forgot to sign in, this is to explain post-edit the removal of the COI tag, any person from India could be potentially related to the conference just as user:ansumang was, he rubbished the coi allegation in the deletion discussion, the tag didn't deserve to be there and so has been trashed by me.user:ansumang has created the page; that is why I am mentioning his name here.
