I propose merging Whitfield Estates Subdivision MPS into this CDP article, Whitfield, Manatee County, Florida, as the area of the Whitfield Estates Subdivision is exactly or substantially the same as the area of the CDP, and all material about both can be handled in one article.

  • A map of the subdivision is available at page 16 PDF version of MPS document here, which may be readable in MSIE browser although not in Chrome.) What is displayed in Google Maps for "Whitfield, Florida" (is this the CDP area?) overlaps and includes all of the subdivision, but runs 5 blocks further to the south along the coast and includes the Sarasota Bay Country Club (a golf course originally known as Whitfield Estates Country Club, discussed in the MPS) and streets south of the golf course.
  • Both articles are surprisingly old: the MPS article was started in 2006; this article was started in 2002. Note, the CDP article states that Whitfield is known locally as "Whitfield Estates". CDPs are Wikipedia-notable, but the "Whitfield Estates Subdivision MPS" is literally a document submitted to the National Park Service, and is not properly the subject of a Wikipedia article.
  • A history of the Whitfield Estates Subdivision is provided in the Whitfield Estates Subdivision MPS document and a summary should be included in this article. The NRHP-listed properties in the CDP should be listed in this article, as is done in many city/town/CDP/other community articles.
  • The "merger" might be thought also to apply to the National Register of Historic Places listings in Manatee County list-article, which tabulates all the Whitfield Estates NRHP items. In this edit I just refined the list-article to permanently record, by a superscripted "W" linked to a key, which properties are in the Whitfield Estates subdivision. (This was already noted in description column, but this is meant to be more permanent and definitive. Descriptions can be revised to be descriptions, per se.) This NRHP list-article substantially duplicates the Whitfield Estates Subdivision MPS article.
  • This merger would avoid oddity that the MPS article covers 7 properties listed in association with it, but omits coverage of Whitfield Estates-Broughton Street Historic District. The latter is naturally covered/tabulated in a section about the Whitfield Estates (within the Whitfield article), but not within an article about the MPS per se.

I would like to implement this merger and further develop this article to integrate coverage of each of the NRHP places. --doncram 13:18, 20 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Ebyabe is okay with the merger, just wants to see development, per this where I asked at their Talk page. I don't think anyone else will oppose (or care), so I will expect to go ahead and merge. Unless someone speaks up soon. --doncram 19:06, 20 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
