Penrose suggests that he 'threw his hand in" (i.e. resigned) in June 1944 (i.e early summer after the Normandy landings, see Adventure With Fate page 227-228). And that on page 229 He states " On 23 October 1944, a month after Teddy had left", suggesting that he formally left in September 1944. But in Davies' Biography it is stated that " He formally joined English Electric in July 1944" (page 68). Anyone any other information?
