Impact of Lockdown during I quarter of 2020-21 on exports and remedial measures edit

During the current year, i.e. during lockdown, as on 30.06.2020 (i.e. the I Quarter ), the exports were

     •	Merchandise     Rs.  7372 Cr	Increase:	16.46%
     •	Services	Rs. 10895 Cr	Increase:	17.13%
     •	Total		Rs. 18266 Cr	Increase:	16.86% (Average)

• As a relief to the financial crisis of closed units, and also to fight against Corona Crisis, we have allowed broad banding activities to 8 Units so far, online, in a short time, keeping in view the rules as relaxed by MoC, for making of Face Masks 5.59 Cr, Face Shields of 69 lakhs, PPE Kits of 142.5 lakhs, Shoe cover 9 lakhs, to various units viz., Shinetex apparel at Duvvada, Brandix (I, II, III) Units, Quantum clothing, seeds intimate apparel, all at Atchutapuram, Pals Plush in Kakinada SEZ at Kakinada, Synergies Castings (EoU) and Lee Pharma for making sanitizer at Duvvada. All these units have been approved online. Also, that on the recommendation of MoC, GOI has exempted Basic Customs Duty and Health Cess on a number of medical equipment, for supply to Domestic Tariff Area Units and this exemption will continue up to Sep 2020. All our customs officers are exerting despite the restrictions of Lockdown and clearing the goods 24x7 from the units as per need. So, for 319000 above Covid related items have been supplied to various agencies and still these units have reserves of 6.98 lakhs readily. State Govt should utilize this facility • Despite lockdown for nearly more than 100 days as on date, the SEZ Units and EOUs have relentlessly contributing to the exports of the nation and earning foreign exchange. As on date, a total of 630 (359 WFH) out of 702 units are operational (in both SEZ & EOUs) i.e. 508 SEZ Units and 122 EOUs. As on date, as updated by the customs officers, concerned in SEZs 24 % only of the total staff (total on rolls is 379221) are working from the Units after observing social distancing norms, under SEZs. And a total of 288141 employees are working from home especially in IT and ITES units in SEZs. • Despite all Odds, and with the above facilitations, VSEZ has again proved its merit by achieving exports to the tune of Rs 27742 Cr even during Corona Crisis, till 4th August 2020, against Rs 24309 Cr during last year and has achieved a growth rate of 14.12 %, the biggest achievement so far in SEZs of the country, whereas all other 6 SEZs of the country have recorded a negative growth. • The Synergies Castings an EOU, under VSEZ, has been granted permission, for making of disposable Face Shields to the tune of 60 lakhs per annum and 2.4 Cr Disposable Face Masks under Broad Banding Activity keeping in view the underutilized capacity of the unit, which was otherwise the pioneer unit supplying Aluminum Alloy Wheels to the world renowned General Motors. The Unit was supporting a direct employment of 1500 and an indirect employment of 400 prior to lockdown, which is now running with only 20% of its rated manpower requirement. • M/s Synergy Casting Ltd, has come-out with an immediate project to diversify its activities from Wheels making (Now the client for this product are General Motors) to Preparation of Medical Equipment such as, Disinfectant tunnel, Disposal Face Shields and Masks, Hand Sanitizer Kiosks, Paper, Packets and Plastic Sanitization UV+ Box, and Room Defoggers for Air Cleaning Continuously in Office Spares. The company is awaiting for the Machinery in the next few days where after the production will start.
