Low imp edit

See [1] for an explanations of the importance scale within the physics project.Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 10:12, 3 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Exactly: "High: Important or famous. Something an undergraduate physics major could have heard of or studied" Please have a look what is going on in this field. There are only a few methods (microscopes) for the localisation of single molecules in a cell. All these methods are highly important for the biomolecular research. Using these types of microscopes scientists will be able to answer fundamental questions --88.79.241.157 (talk) 10:51, 3 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

This is a type of microscope, not a field of physics covered in undergrad glasses. Microscope is high-imp. Types of microscopes are lower. This would be like rating Bee Hummingbirds to be similar importance than birds. In other words, there would be a serious gap in Wikipedia (or more specifically a gap in the the physics coverage) if there wasn't be an article on microscopes. The same cannot be said about Vertico SMI; there would be a gap, yes, but nothing crippling as far as the physics project is concerned. confusing article edit

Even as an expert I have trouble understanding what this technique is supposed to be about. It is all marketing speak "resolution up to" "fastest" etc. and no clear description how it works and what distinguishes it from similar ideas. Awfully written. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.170.138.132 (talk) 09:50, 31 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Amen, this confusing article needs help. Guys, run this article past a colleague or girlfriend in another field, answer their questions, and fix this article. I'm a member of the IEEE, the Optical Society of America -- this isn't my area, but walk me through it: the principle of operation (light at multiple axes in a rotating specimen, interference patterns, confocal optics, just say), show me how the principles are realized in practice (a diagram of a microscope, the optical path, anything), and compare to older technologies or issues that might be familiar to the reader. Don't worry about how neat it is, how much better it is, we all get that. Thanks, I've just gone in and fixed other articles myself when I can, but we in the community need your special knowledge and experience here.
