Distances between locks edit

Anyone have any info on the distances (along the waterway) between the locks? scot 22:01, 2 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

This page on the River Industry Bulletin Board gives the mile location for each lock. -- Muffuletta 16:44, 3 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I think I'm going to re-do the chart and include mile markers and maybe distances between locks. The COE also appears to have maps of the entire Mississippi river navigation system online at http://www2.mvr.usace.army.mil/NIC2/mrcharts.cfm. One more interesting thing I found, at http://www.tec.army.mil/echarts/inlandnav/ they have a nifty graphic that, being a military source should be public domain, that has the entire US inland navigation system outlined. Might be handy to grab a copy of that, trim it down to just the right half of the country, enlarge it, and create versions with different systems highlighted, like the Lower Mississippi, Upper Mississippi, Ohio, Kerr-McClellan, etc. scot 14:29, 4 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Lake Onalaska one of the more important lake in western Wisconsin part of upper Mississippi River edit

Hi! What about starting an article about Lake Onalaska in western Wisconsin? Lake Onalaska is part of the upper Mississippi River system and was created by the construction of Lock and Dam# 7 in the mid 1930s. Thank you- RFD (talk) 12:59, 14 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Basin area is wildly off edit

The area given for the basin (~3300 mi^2) is spectacularly wrong. Given that the upper section of the river itself is 1250 miles long (according to the article, anyway - perhaps that should be checked?) the basin would have to be about 3 miles wide. I can't find the original reference anywhere on the USGS website or on the web, but given that it refers to the UMR floodplain I suspect that the area given is for the floodplain, not the total drainage area. Trying to find a better primary reference. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mandoliniment (talkcontribs) 18:36, 7 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Middle Mississippi River edit

This article defines the Upper Mississippi as the portion of the river as far as the Ohio confluence. The article on the Mississippi as a whole defines it as the portion as far as the Missouri confluence, and the portion between the Missouri and Ohio as the Middle Mississippi River. One of these must be changed so that they match, or at least the article should mention that there are competing definitions. Joe Avins (talk) 18:29, 26 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
