On 9 October 1945,the USS DORAN operating as a mine sweeper rescued 15 Army Air Corp men who ditched their C47 and were able to put out 3 life rafts and make their way to the Doran and use the rope ladder to come aboard. This was made even more difficult by Typhoon Louise which was at its peak. The above information should be inserted in the last paragraph of the article right after "and reached okinawa 7 October". The Doran should have been credited with this rescue.I have no confidence that this will happen. At this point in time it cant be verified. The question is,why this event is not in the Dorans records? How often does any ship save 15 lives? Without the Doran there would not be any survivers in the five man life rafts that would be on their own during a typhoon. Octber 9,2005 will be a 60 year anniversary for me. When the Doran crew members put us ashore the next day,we were met by another flight crew who told us that we were reported missing. Typhoon Louise really wasted Okinawa. There was wreckage throughout.
