Help!!!

edit

Hi. I tried to update the commons image as usual, but the NHC image is screwed up and the commons image has been protected, see commons:User talk:Keith Edkins. Thanks. ~AH1(TCU) 18:05, 19 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

They protected it because the admin wants us to upload a new image for each advisory, which is rediculous. -CWY2190(talkcontributions) 18:11, 19 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Responded to that guy's message with a situation I had before. -- RattleMan 18:13, 19 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
That is absurd. Just upload them locally as Image:2008 02L 5-day track.gif and Image:2008 03L 5-day track.gif and screw Commons. Titoxd(?!? - cool stuff) 18:19, 19 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hi. no personal attacks, please, and I've commented on the admin's talkpage, to notify him of the objections, and what about the NHC image, it is screwed up. Thanks. ~AH1(TCU) 18:23, 19 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Can you make a personal attack against a website? Unless this commons guy is a person... -CWY2190(talkcontributions) 18:26, 19 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
While I wonder how on Earth that's a personal attack (if the Wikimedia Commons decides to make it hard on us to update images, then we're just not going to use Commons), I'm commenting there as well. Titoxd(?!? - cool stuff) 18:27, 19 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
I've uploaded a local copy of the image that we can use until/if this is sorted out. Titoxd(?!? - cool stuff) 18:35, 19 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Please continue any discussions of this issue here. Adambro (talk) 18:43, 19 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
It's unprotected in Commons now, so we can upload them there again. I'll delete the local copy. Titoxd(?!? - cool stuff) 19:09, 19 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hi. One more question, is the NHC issuing 2am, 8am, 2pm, and 8pm advisories for this storm? If so, then why was the advisory at 11am advisory 3 and the 5pm advisory 4, and when does NHC usually start issuing 3-hour advisories? Also, why was the previous image screwed up and will it happen again? Thanks. ~AH1(TCU) 22:37, 19 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
The intermediate advisories are issued whenever there are watches and/or warnings in effect. A full advisory is issued at 3z, 9z, 15z, and 21z (11p, 5a, 11a, 5p EDT). In this case, the 11a advisory was #3, the 2p intermediate advisory was #3a, and the full 5p advisory was #4. -CWY2190(talkcontributions) 22:40, 19 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Rainfall graphic

edit

Expect the rainfall graphic to be produced on Monday or Tuesday. I'm waiting for the post storm/hurricane reports (PSH) to be issued by the Morehead City, NC WFO, and still have to add the CoCoRAHS data. Thegreatdr (talk) 23:19, 25 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

GA Review

edit
This review is transcluded from Talk:Tropical Storm Cristobal (2008)/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.

Hi! I will be reviewing this article for GA, and should have the full review up within a few hours. Dana boomer (talk) 12:18, 23 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

GA review (see here for criteria)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
    a (prose):   b (MoS):
    • In the "Storm history" section, you say "Cristobal remained a fairly weak tropical storm as it tracked adjacent to the Carolina coast, although Cristobal never made landfall. ". Please reword this to avoid using "Cristobal" twice in the same sentence.
    • In the "Impact" section, you say "224 mm (8.8 in) of rain was reported at Baccaro Point". Starting sentences with numerals is discouraged.
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references):   b (citations to reliable sources):   c (OR):
    • In references where you have both the first and last name of the author, the last name should come first.
    • I guess I never realized that a guideline was needed for this. Last name, first name is how authors are always cited in academic papers from all disciplines, books, and in all citation styling. If you look at WP:REF you will see that every time they give a reference example, the format is last name, first name. Dana boomer (talk) 13:52, 23 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects):   b (focused):
    • There is no naming section. This is because it's a 2008 storm and they haven't released the naming reports yet, true?
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars etc.:
  6. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales):   b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:

Overall, a well-written article. I am putting the article on hold to allow time to deal with the few minor issues I have mentioned above. If you have questions, you can ask here on the review page or on my talk page. Dana boomer (talk) 12:29, 23 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
