Information edit

Please add ISBNs where they appear. Translator's names should be given first as they appear in the book, then in parentheses. (This follows the practice over on Translations of The Hobbit. -- Evertype· 09:55, 27 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Babelstone, are you sure about the Gili translation? I see the third edtion from Barcelona, Editiorial Juventud 1935, and notes that a Rivadeneyra edition was abridged. (I wish these things were easier to find.) Maybe we should check COPAC. -- Evertype· 10:13, 27 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
No I am not. I made a note of this translation a long time ago, but I cannot confirm it now. A handbook of the literature of the Rev. C.L. Dodgson gives "Barcelona, 1928?" BabelStone (talk) 10:34, 27 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Do check my Pinyin. -- Evertype· 10:16, 27 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Blanks edit

I don't much like the idea of putting placeholders in without proper bibliographic references, even if the place-holders come from Weaver. -- Evertype· 08:16, 31 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Me neither. Best to list them here on the talk page, but don't add them to the article until we have more details. BabelStone (talk) 11:25, 31 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

On their way... edit

Translations in Scots. Ulster Scots, Volapük, Neo, and Middle English verse are underway. -- Evertype· 10:47, 2 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Bibliographic citation edit

It was completely wrong for two users to change the bibliographic citation of publication place to English. Yes, Warszawa should pipe to Warsaw but this list is a bibliography, and as such should reflect what is written on the books. -- Evertype· 16:13, 15 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I have not been able to find any mention of this matter in any Wikipedia style guide (please link if you know of one). Those style guides I was able to find which do mention it disagree with you. The Oxford Guide to Style: "Irrespective of the original title page, place of publication should be in English, or—failing an acceptable English equivalent—in the language officially in use there at the time"; The Chicago Manual of Style: "Current, commonly used English names for foreign cities should be used whenever such forms exist". Butsuri (talk) 20:49, 11 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
This should be taken up over on the style sheet so that consensus can be achieved. The thing is that a bibliography is itself a form of citation, and translating part but not all of a citiation is of dubious merit. Piping to the English-named article should be sufficient. I certainly object to Murray1975's changing ONE city name only in this list; there are many city names here, and most of them are given in their original name and pipe to the English-names article. I strongly recommend that we take this up with the Manual of Style people. -- Evertype· 15:57, 22 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
As was discussed before, MOS:QUOTE was offered as a solution, after Evertype had tried to edit the guideline without consensus. This actually states
"Quotations from foreign-language sources should appear in translation"
Basically WP:USEENGLISH. I may have missed a few, how about conforming to guidelines and helping instead of forwarding your editorial style on wikipedia? Murry1975 (talk) 17:55, 23 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
Missed a few? You missed ALL of them but the ones in Westport. Gimme a break. Also, I do think that this thing should be decided by a consensus discussion involving MANY editors. The discussion we had briefly over on the MOS was not conclusive. It was you and me arguing with each other. :-) It has been a long time since I figured out how to set up a RFC. Wouldn't that be useful? -- Evertype· 16:26, 27 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
How about, no new consensus means we go with the current consensus? And if you look I didnt miss the ALL- a few yes :~ Murry1975 (talk) 17:50, 7 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
I agree that the names of these places should be given in English. Their purpose is to inform English-speaking users of where the book was published. At present it is not even obvious that this is the place of publication, rather than say the name of the publisher.---Ehrenkater (talk) 16:08, 29 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Arabic entries edit

Transliterations would be most welcome. -- Evertype· 13:37, 11 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Conflict of interest edit

A more diverse list should be preferable. We know for a fact that it is one of the most translated secular books in the world, and this has been ongoing for over a century. Yet a considerable proportion of the translations listed are published by Evertype and its owner Michael Everson has been editing this page... A clear conflict of interest.-213.205.241.112 (talk) 12:09, 18 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
