May 11--firing already edit

You *know* it's gonna be a busy day when, at 7 AM EDT, there's already a bunch of active tornado warnings in Georgia and South Carolina, and three hours later, there's another set active in southeastern Kentucky. Gonna update the table now. Rdfox 76 (talk) 13:50, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

It will definitely continue to be updated. Once more information becomes available, a separate section will be made for the OK-MO supercell that killed at least 17 (the two big killers may have been the same tornado). CrazyC83 (talk) 14:54, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Two dead in Georgia, doesnt say if there was a tornado or not [1]. -RunningOnBrains 18:24, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
It is shown as a tornado in the SPC storm reports, but they haven't picked up the fatalities. It is probable that it was from the tornadoes based on the damage description. CrazyC83 (talk) 18:46, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Round 3 of the severe weather edit

While tomorrow is supposed to be quiet, another outbreak could begin on Tuesday. If that is significant, I think it should continue in this article. CrazyC83 (talk) 18:53, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I agree, tomorrow's setup look like it at least has he potential for several tornado reports, as does wednesday's. May 13th and 14th should be added to this page (looks like wednesday could amount to a significant wind event as well). --Bigphishy56 (talk) 16:26, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

How I think it should be treated:

  • Isolated tornadoes, mostly or all weak - Separate section (if warranted) at Tornadoes of 2008.
  • Significant activity (i.e. verifying a high-end slight risk or higher for tornadoes, even if not article-worthy by itself) - Continue on this article.

Newton County Tornado Rating edit

I am pretty sure that the EF3 rating was conservative, and wouldn't be surprised then it would be an EF4, but is there a source where it does offically confirms it as an EF4 because neither NWS Tulsa, NWS Wichita or NWS Springfield or the Storm Reports does indicate it as an EF4. That would force the IP to stop edit warring for that manner--JForget 23:55, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

The PNS issued by NWS Springfield officially called it an EF4 - that is the official rating for that tornado (at least in Missouri; it is unlikely but it might have been EF5 in Oklahoma). I included a source for the EF4 rating.
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SPRINGFIELD MISSOURI HAS CONFIRMED
THE TOUCHDOWN OF A VERY STRONG TORNADO ON MAY 10 2008 IN NEWTON
COUNTY MISSOURI. AT APPROXIMATELY 559 PM A TORNADO CROSSED THE
OKLAHOMA BORDER JUST NORTH OF IRIS ROAD. THE TORNADO MOVED EAST
SOUTHEAST TO THE INTERSECTION OF HIGHWAY 43 AND IRIS ROAD WERE IT
INTENSIFIED BRIEFLY TO AN EF-4 TORNADO WITH WINDS OF APPROXIMATELY
170 MPH. DAMAGE INCLUDED THROWING AUTOMOBILES UP TO ONE HALF
MILE...COMPLETELY DESTROYING BUSINESSES AND NUMEROUS HOMES. MANY OF
THE TWELVE REPORTED DEATHS IN NEWTON COUNTY DURING THIS EVENT
OCCURRED NEAR THIS INTERSECTION.

Round 4 edit

Can someone watch this? 205.240.146.14 (talk) 00:48, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Got a servere storm outbreak with the possibility of tornadoes going on. 00:50, 14 May 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.240.146.14 (talk)

That's probably one of the biggest busts of the year so far - only one tornado and if there is less then 10 tornadoes today, I think we could be safe to say that the article will include only from May 7 to May 11. --JForget 15:09, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm going to hide that until we see what happens, definitely a big bust yesterday. (The biggest though was March 18 - two PDS watches and not a single confirmed tornado.) It would be so out of line in the article. CrazyC83 (talk) 15:18, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I would say add the 13th and 14th anyways. What we could refer to as "Round 3" occurred yesterday over Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri producing some massive hail and 1 or 2 tornadoes. It is currently over Louisiana and Mississippi where there are several tornado watches and warnings. It may also be worth noting that some of these wind reports seen today and yesterday might have been tornadoes.

Also there is another system moving over Texas presently. With a chance of producing more tornadoes. --156.34.78.53 (talk) 22:08, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

There may have been a few tornadoes but except for one or two, damage has being limited to trees and utilities, so I don't think it should be included anyways.--JForget 17:35, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
And after I said that, more serious damage reports have been added, so I guess we can continue now the article.--JForget 19:58, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

May 15 edit

There are reported tornadoes in Louisiana and Mississippi I think we need a section for this day as well. -Kuzwa (talk) 15:36, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yep, a few are quite notable, and the report count is 14 from "yesterday" (up to 1200Z), so the article continues. (1 person also killed in Iberville Parish - listed as straight line winds but it might have been the 26th tornado death of the outbreak). The end is in sight though - slight risk tomorrow (isolated tornadoes possible) on the east coast, then nothing until Memorial Day weekend at least. CrazyC83 (talk) 19:49, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Since there is no website that compiles tornadoes from Mexico (and even when there are, they are seldom rated on either scale), it is possible the numbers are underestimated as there were several reports right at the border. CrazyC83 (talk) 12:30, 16 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
