Talk:The Ultimate Fighter: Team Liddell vs. Team Ortiz

Article title edit

There's already news being published and edits to The Ultimate Fighter in regards to TUF 11. I decided to go ahead and seed the article with information. There will likely need to me a move at a later time as the UFC announces the official name of the season. Until such time as the UFC announces the season title, I figure we should just keep this here. --TreyGeek (talk) 01:21, 26 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Can someone provide a source that the show is officially titled "The Ultimate Fighter: Team Liddell vs. Team Ortiz"? I see there is a graphic posted with that title, but there's no source for where the graphic came from. I've checked the Spike TV and UFC pages and they have no material up on TUF 11 yet, a Google search provides no reliable sources for the title. --TreyGeek (talk) 18:06, 10 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Newsletter, I presume. It's from an official source, I think. Paralympiakos (talk) 18:31, 10 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Without being able to cite a reliable source for the title of the season, the article should not have been renamed. It could be speculated that the season will be called "The Ultimate Fighter: Middleweights" just as much as Liddell vs Ortiz. --TreyGeek (talk) 18:44, 10 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'm still unable to find a reliable source showing that there is an official title for the season. I'm tempted to revert changes to the article name and references to "Team Liddell vs. Team Ortiz" unless a source can be cited. --TreyGeek (talk) 23:00, 13 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

As above. I've sent a message to the uploader of the image to ask where they got the image from, as I highly suspect it came from the newsletter, but want to confirm. Just waiting on a reply. If it is what I suspect, then I believe we should take that name as accurate, considering its official status Paralympiakos (talk) 00:11, 14 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Seems like you are speculating that the name was announced in a newsletter. Just as I can speculate that the graphic is a leaked version in which there are multiple versions with different titles. They might do this to see which title looks better or what possibilities there are in the displays before deciding on a title. (One of the other possible titles obviously being "The Ultimate Fighter: Middleweights").
I fear of sounding like a broken record, but we need a verifiable and reliable source for the season being named "Team Liddell vs Team Ortiz" or it should be reverted back to the palceholder of "11". --TreyGeek (talk) 03:13, 14 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Just found the TUF 11 article at FightBomb.com. (They accurately provided a list of TUF 10 competitors early on.) They have a different graphic showing "Team Liddell vs Team Ortiz" with their logo on it in the corner. The title of their informational page is "The Ultimate Fighter 11: Middleweights." So there's a lot of speculation on titles it appears. I haven't found any other site calling it anything other than TUF 11. --TreyGeek (talk) 03:19, 14 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

At this point, I kind of agree with you. It was me (I think) who changed the name of the page to its current name, based on the graphic, which I thought was official, but maybe it isn't.

I say just do what you feel is best, Trey. I trust your judgement enough. Paralympiakos (talk) 15:33, 14 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

An update to this, I contacted Trunks, the uploader of the image who gave this reply:
"Here's the source from where I got the image from: http://mmafanatics.webs.com/tuf11buildup.htm It is also the 6th reference on the TUF 11 page. Trunks8719 (talk) 23:26, 14 January 2010 (UTC)"
I've also been unable to confirm that this is indeed an official image from the newsletter, so once again, do what you feel is necessary. Paralympiakos (talk) 19:48, 15 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Ok, a new update.

I realise how dodgy a source youtube can be, so I'm not going to go ahead and change it just yet, but I'm looking for some consensus. This appears to be an official trailer (given the voiceover and clips of fights from the season) and is being reported on by some MMA websites. Any opinion on article name change now? Paralympiakos (talk) 17:46, 19 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

YouTube videos are not generally acceptable sources. The video cited above is on an account that does not appear to be a UFC account. UFC.com and the SpikeTV web site have no information on the next TUF season. You state other sites are referring to an official title. Can you link them? --TreyGeek (talk) 18:25, 19 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

It was aired on Spike TV. I'm looking for sources atm.

Also, Leroy Lyons; you just restored this fighter to the lineup. There's no mention of him on that source. Paralympiakos (talk) 18:27, 19 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

For what it's worth:

That's the same video from the same non-UFC account. --TreyGeek (talk) 18:31, 19 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

I know. You asked for a link that shows this to be an official trailer. Well, that link comes from a respected MMA source who suggest that it's a proper teaser for the series.

Also, as I say, official voiceover and clips from the new season, suggests to me that it is official, especially as it aired on Spike TV. If you want to remove it again, then go ahead, but don't rollback, because that will re-add "Leroy Lyons" Paralympiakos (talk) 18:33, 19 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Has that video aired on TV? If so, then I'll agree that's the official title. I haven't watched Spike anytime recently, so I know know if that is a real commercial that is really airing right now. Also, YouTube is rarely put in the external links. --TreyGeek (talk) 22:52, 19 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Complicated, as I'm not American, so I wouldn't know. However, the title definitely makes it seem as though it's official and there are multiple versions of the video on youtube.

I'm happy to wait a few days though before changing the title of the page, so that we can get additional confirmation. Paralympiakos (talk) 22:55, 19 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Tournament bracket edit

It's standard practice on TUF articles to not add a bracket until after semi-finals are set (thus we can deduce an accurate bracket), and for good reason:

  • adding brackets implies matchups that may not necessarily occur. Either you're posting uncitable spoilers or are using a crystal ball... or just plain misusing a bracket.
  • Any work saved will easily cost more work down the line when we have to rearrange all the names to show the proper succession of winners. If you're really worried about work being lost, well, that's what WP:Sandboxes are for.

--TreyGeek (talk) 01:21, 26 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • This season will feature a new system with 28 fighters which means someone will need to create a 28 fighhter bracket --Mollica93 (talk) 00:09, 23 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
or not... Could always just....WAIT —Preceding unsigned comment added by Paralympiakos (talkcontribs)

If you try to create a single-elimination bracket with 28 fighters in the first round, you will have major problems. (First round 28 fighters, second 14 fighters, third 7, fourth 3.5... oh wait) In addition, the news article about there being 28 fights suggests there is a format change. So we will really have to wait and see. I strongly discourage anyone from creating brackets now, before the show starts airing, or as stated above, until we get near the end of the show and know how it will all turn out. --TreyGeek (talk) 02:16, 25 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Clarification edit

"White also announced that the fighters would compete in the middleweight weight class." Is he referring to Ortiz/Liddell or the guys moving into the house? --JY23 (talk) 01:42, 7 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'd have said it was fairly obvious that he meant the contestants. Ortiz and Liddell at MW seems highly improbable. Also, he said he didn't know what weight it was, before stuttering into a MW answer. I wouldn't take that as confirmation. Paralympiakos (talk) 01:45, 7 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
I did find it interesting that Dana White said middleweights when he was previously quoted as saying season 11 would focus on light heavyweights. The press release put out about the coaches does not mention the weight class(es) that would be on the show. We will have to wait and see I suppose. --TreyGeek (talk) 02:00, 7 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Bracket Ideas edit

If got a bracket like this but with more fighters then it would be perfect:

Quarter-finalsSemi-finalsFinal

In this bracket you can skip first round matches.

Mollica93 (talk) 18:30, 29 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Except it appears that no one is skipping rounds. Rather two fighters will fight twice in the same round. --TreyGeek (talk) 13:53, 1 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Ortiz out edit

April 14 Dana confirmed that Ortiz had left the show for an unspecified reason. Rich Franklin is taking Ortiz's spot at the PPV finale. There are multiple sources for this and you can even find the video on Youtube when he was interviewed by Jim Rome.

Isn't this relevant information that should be in this article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.23.124.111 (talk) 09:40, 19 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
