Spam edit

I've reverted the spam edits made by an editor I've just now blocked for being advertising only. The edits were problematic for several reasons, one of which was that they removed the mixed review for the book in favor of writing the article to be extremely promotional. • I've reverted an edit by an IP that appears to be this same user. They tried adding that the Library Journal had included this book on their "best of" list, however the mention appears to come from this post, which is not their "best of 2008" list. This is a list of books written by members of the International Thriller Writers and only contains publication information and book blurbs. It comes across more like it was written to promote a then upcoming conference and its members, so it's not really anything that should be construed as the LJ designating it as an official "best of" book for the year. The LJ did give the book a favorable review FWIW, but a look at the review doesn't show any indication that it was the best of the year, just that they greatly enjoyed it. I've warned the IP about block evasion, promotional edits, and about misrepresentation of sourcing. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 10:04, 30 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • I've reverted the spam again. The link given here goes to a press release issued by M2 Communications, a PR company. The thing about PR companies is that they do practically zero fact checking. That's not their job - their job is to promote their client, who can claim whatever they want. I've protected the page for two weeks and I'm going to block the IP since this is clearly the same person evading a block. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 04:45, 1 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • The thing is, this can only be added if you can show a link, preferably the list in question from the Library Journal, that backs this up. Press releases, primary sources (Land or someone affiliated with him), or self-published-source (or other unreliable sources) cannot be used. I could find no mention of Land on the Library Journal site as far as "best of 2008" lists go, so until a good source is provided I have to assume that it does not exist and that this refers to the June 2008 article. • Found it. I was able to find it in my school's database. Even so, I need to stress that this needed to be sourced with a reliable source, not press releases. The comments about not making this a promotional article still stand and the block will not be lifted on the editor in question, nor will the page protection.
