Meddaes

Someone keeps on removing its local name. A touch of snobbery perhaps? --MacRusgail (talk) 17:10, 25 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Or perhaps they disagree that it's a "local name". I know I do! ;-) As a born-and-bred Edinburgher (though not there right now I must admit) I've never ever known it to be called anything but the Meadows. To me at least, the sound "Meddaes" is an issue of accent, not spelling or colloquialism. I'm sure there are people who always say "Meddaes", but then, there are people who say potaYto and potaHto... nobody suggests that there are multiple spellings of that word. Is there any serious written heritage for calling it Meddaes? If there is, naturally I'd have to bow to that, but even then I'd hope it'd be made clear that it's an alternative name, not a so-called "local" one. – Kieran T (talk) 17:48, 25 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
I've heard "Meddaes" a few times. The "oh" sound frequently becomes "ae" in Edinburgh Scots.--MacRusgail (talk) 13:49, 28 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
