Jewish edit

JJay wrote "our article on Nostradamus says he's not Jewish" [1], but that is wrong. The Nostradamus article cleary says his family was Jewish. I believe this editor is upset about Wikipedia:Requests for comment/JJay more than anything. FGT2 17:45, 20 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • Kindly restrict your comments to editing this article or they will be removed per WP:TALK. The Nostradamus article says that Nostradamus's family converted before he was born. Therefore, Nostradamus was not jewish. In addition, why are you removing the sources tag from this article? At present, the article has no neutral third party sources not connected with Randi. The sources tag is warranted. --JJay 19:30, 20 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Being Jewish is not just about religion. In fact, some Jews are Christians, and thus it is not a contradiction.[2] Deal with your RfC before making any more reverts. Arbustoo 03:55, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • The claim that Nostradamus was Jewish is contradicted by Randi, our article on Nostradamus and the historical record. Having Jewish roots does not make someone Jewish (if it did, we could describe John Kerry as being Jewish). Nostradamus' grandfather converted 50 years before Nostradamus was born. We can not make the claim that Nostradamus was jewish without a serious source. Find that source or remove the section. --JJay 11:27, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • 1) Having a Jewish grandfather, makes one at least a quarter Jewish. 2) You are given a source, Rand's book: "He was already under suspicion, because only two generations earlier the Notredames had been the Gassonets, a Jewish family that had converted to Catholicism under pressure."[3] 3) The wikipedia article says "The latter's family had originally been Jewish, but Jaume's father, Guy Gassonet, had converted to Catholicism in around 1455..." (that's what Randi said.) 4) A Jewish family, Christian converts. Arbustoo 13:00, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:The Mask of Nostradamus.jpg edit

Image:The Mask of Nostradamus.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 06:56, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rewriting this page edit

Hello everyone, I intend to rewrite this page in the next month or so, as it is currently too sparse. If anyone sees this, please let me know if there is anything you would like me to add to the page. BertrandMarx (talk) 08:13, 16 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Update: finished a complete rewrite. I provided background material, a synopsis, and all the reviews I could find of the book. BertrandMarx (talk) 06:48, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
