The Great Excelsior Jazz Band were not involved in the Duvall Piano Drop. They were supposed to play the "Media Mash" the week before that was part of the same fundraising benefit, but according to the story at the upper left of File:Helix, v.3, no.6, Apr. 25, 1968 - DPLA - db196713700b7d50825ad8aad7b741cc (page 21).jpg, they canceled and didn't show because their drummer was unavailable. That makes this a story at two removes from the band.

@Dennis william nyback: since you wrote this, I want to make sure you don't have something here that you know that I don't (e.g. that the review I linked might be wrong about what happened on April 11, 1968).
