D: If you're unclear on why Allegiant is considered a box office failure, you should review the Box Office section of the main Allegiant page. It's quite detailed and informative.

They look at individual films, not the series as a whole. Considering Allegiant did awful in the box office and was panned by both critics and the audience, and the significant deviations between the books and movies, it wasn't financially viable. Considering Allegiant dropped almost 40% compared to Allegiant, and Mockingjay I only dropped about 13%, then looking at Mockingjay II's drop, the likelihood Ascendant would actually lose money on production alone made it a financial risk.

I saw an article today that Buzzfeed received information that Ascendant has officially been scrapped by Starz due to the cast dropping out.
