Trivia edit

  • If anybody cares, it's reported, during the run of the show, somebody said, "Hi, Bob." a total of 256 times. (Who counts that?) Trekphiler 01:51, 19 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
It would be interesting to know which episode had the most "Hi, Bobs" and if the writers knew that this was turning into a cult drinking game and tried to see how many they could cram into an episode. --Woolhiser 01:56, 17 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • The page listed Bob's neighbor Howard as an "airline pilot"-- actually he was a navigator, which dates the show somewhat, because airliners don't carry navigators anymore. -Rbean 18:25, 24 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Carlin was NOT in every one of Bob's support group - see episode 1, seasson 4 "The Heavyweights." Elliot is not in that group.

No more trivia. Clarityfiend 02:57, 5 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject class rating edit

This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as start, and the rating on other projects was brought up to start class. BetacommandBot 14:39, 9 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Looking for help writing an article about the spin-offs and crossovers of this series edit

I am writing an article about all of the series which are in the same shared reality as this one through spin-offs and crossovers. I could use a little help expanding the article since it is currently extremely dense and a bit jumbled with some sentence structures being extremely repetitive. I would like to be able to put this article into article space soon. Any and all help in writing the article would be appreciated, even a comment or two on the talk page would help. Please give it a read through, also please do not comment here since I do not have all of the series on my watch list. - LA @ 16:12, 16 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Reversion of extensive editing edit

I have reverted a number of edits which made extensive changes to the article, as I do not think they were beneficial to the article overall. The newly provided synopsis was poorly written, and the long list of guest stars was unnecessary -- every long-running show will have a large number of actors pass through it whose names are recognizable. Perhaps a short list of the most notable might be justified, but not one that attempts to be exhaustive.

I have asked the editor who made the changes to discuss his or her intended changes here in advance. Ed Fitzgerald t / c 21:42, 18 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Theme music "Home For Emily" edit

It is composed by Patrick Williams, according to his Wikipedia entry and the show's IMDb page. NBK1122 (talk) 21:27, 31 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Brother-in-law edit

It says Howard became Bob's brother-in-law. This looks suspicious. Did Howard marry Ellen? Clarityfiend (talk) 08:32, 8 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

I know that they were engaged. I think that they eventually married, but I suppose you could mark the statement as needing a citation if you wanted to. -- JTSchreiber (talk) 03:25, 13 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
OK, I looked into this a little more at Classic Sitcoms[1] and IMDB. Though these are not reliable sources to verify Wikipedia article content, they are better than nothing for this discussion. Howard did propose to Ellen, but there is no evidence that they married and Ellen seems to have been written out of the last two seasons. I'll remove the brother-in-law statement from the article. -- JTSchreiber (talk) 04:46, 14 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Marcia Wallace (Carol) edit

I have a distant memory of Marcia Wallace (the woman who played Carol Kester) appearing on "Taxi" where she talked about The Bob Newhart Show with Jim in a bar room. The "Taxi" page in Wikipedia says that it was Season 5 No. 1 Episode 91 September 30, 1982 "The Shloogel Show" "Love Un-American Style". Bakerbob65 (talk) 10:15, 20 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yes but that was as herself, not as Carol. It could be mentioned on her page, but not this one. --Musdan77 (talk) 21:05, 20 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Opening sequence edit

I removed the Opening sequence section as it is not standard among television articles and falls under WP:MISC, does not adhere to WP:PLOT and contained large amounts of unverified, unreferenced trivia and WP:OPINION.

Beyond My Ken, please provide your reasoning for re-including this information. AldezD (talk) 22:02, 5 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Because the article has been that way for years, therefore, it is the de facto consensus version. You should obtain a consensus here for changing it to the version you prefer. In fact, now that your edit has been reverted, and is therefore controversial, you must get a consensus to restor eit. Beyond My Ken (talk) 22:08, 5 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Beyond My Ken, "because it has been that way for years" is not a valid reason to re-introduce unsourced WP:MISC and WP:OPINION. This information does not improve the article and is entirely unreferenced. Please provide a more detailed reason why you have re-introduced this trivial, fancruft, misc information. AldezD (talk) 22:13, 5 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Other editors (me, for one), disagree with you, so get a consensus. Beyond My Ken (talk) 22:25, 5 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Your response still does not address why you reintroduced content which violates WP:MISC, WP:OPINION, WP:PLOT and WP:FANCRUFT. Please provide basis (outside of your own personal reasoning of "because it has been that way for years") regarding your actions reintroducing unsourced cruft that does not improve this article. AldezD (talk) 22:28, 5 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
I have again removed the unsourced information. Per WP:V, "Any material whose verifiability has been challenged or is likely to be challenged, must include an inline citation that directly supports the material. Any material that needs a source but does not have one may be removed." Also, per WP:ONUS, "The onus to achieve consensus for inclusion is on those seeking to include disputed content." If you want to include unsourced material, the onus is on you. Unsourced material is free to be removed. There is no "status quo" policy. The material has been unsourced for years and may be removed. If you restore it, you are edit-warring. Also, WP:DRNC applies to this content. AldezD (talk) 03:40, 9 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
And I have restored them, as there is no WP:CONSENSUS on this page to make these changes. Please do make the changes again until there is a consensus of editors who agree with you. Your doing so will result in your actions being brought tot he attention of administrators. Beyond My Ken (talk) 03:56, 9 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • I have posted neutral notices about this discussion on the talk pages of the following projects: Television, Comedy and Biography/Arts and Entertainment. Beyond My Ken (talk) 04:08, 9 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
You continue to make the circular argument that consensus is required despite taking actions which are inconsistent with WP:DRNC. Additionally, you argue for the inclusion of info that falls under WP:MISC, WP:FANCRUFT and WP:IINFO and which does not meet WP:V, all while ignoring these guidelines as well as WP:ONUS. You continue to argue to include this information even though the guideline you use as the basis of your argument is contradictory to the actions you are taking. You have not addressed these topics in your WP:DE behavior re-introducing this information, and instead ignore the guidelines which have been presented for its removal. AldezD (talk) 13:54, 9 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
There are no references/sources for this extensive material, of which the value to the article of is questionable. I would say it should be removed per WP:MISC, WP:V, WP:FANCRUFT...but mainly WP:V. —Joeyconnick (talk) 06:15, 9 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Same here. A frame by frame analysis of the opening sequence is a bit excessive. Where are the sources for this? Let's get rid of it already. 67.82.190.57 (talk) 18:48, 9 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Done. Thanks for your input, Joeyconnick and 67.82.190.57. AldezD (talk) 20:21, 9 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Scheduling and The Mary Tyler Moore Show edit

Scheduling information such as the details from this edit do not belong in the lead sentence of the article. The Mary Tyler Moore Show was not a lead-in to this show, and the plots of neither show were intertwined. Also, the program did not air in its entirety after MTM and moved to different times on Saturday nights throughout the six seasons it was on the air. Additionally, the sources in the earlier edit do not provide details related to any correlation between this program and MTM in terms of scheduling. The Bob Newhart Show is merely mentioned as being produced by MTM in the link from Citilab, and the Courant source simply states MTM anchored the Saturday evening lineup of programs.

This type of scheduling info belongs in The Bob Newhart Show#Episodes, and that section has been revised to include specific details. AldezD (talk) 16:19, 15 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
