Talk:Thaddeus Kosciusko Bridge

Untitled edit

I'm fairly sure, as this bridge is just north of Albany, New York (in the eastern part of the state) that it is not maintained by the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission. The article for the NFBC, as well as it's website does not list the Thaddeus Kosciusko Bridge. As I'm not sure who exactly maintains it, I'm going to change the entry to state that the New York State Department of Transportation is the responsible party, as they would be responsible for the bidding out of the work to private contractors in any case. Proposed renaming edit

I wonder if this article should be renamed "Thaddeus Kosciusko Bridge (Albany)" rather than "Kosciusko Bridge (Albany)". Its official name is "Thaddeus Kosciusko Bridge," and nobody calls it "Kosciusko Bridge." --Albany NY 02:14, 5 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Nickname edit

Shouldn't the reason that the bridge is nicknamed after Dolly Parton (and "The Twins") be mentioned in the article? Allen (Morriswa) (talk) 00:48, 21 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

"Dolly Parton" Bridges? edit

I suspect that these might not be the Bridges known as "Dolly Parton" Bridges.

I found two YouTube videos of a drive over the "Dolly Parton" Bridges. One of them (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97_jFVoMglo, "Dolly Parton Bridge, North Mobile Alabama") has in its description that it is a journey on "Interstate 65 bridge north of Mobile, Alabama".

Another YouTube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usc7zofqfYE, "New Dollywood Near Dolly Parton Bridge?") refers to "the Dolly Parton bridge in Creola, Al"

Obviously this is nowhere near New York.

It is, of course possible, that the name is used to refer to both twin bridges.

I haven't found any "published" sources for the name.

Perhaps an editor with local knowledge would like to confirm this or otherwise and make any appropriate changes. Hedles (talk) 21:25, 1 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

I live here locally, we do not refer to the bridges as the "Dolly Parton Bridge." It gave me a laugh though. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:6000:FE80:F00:2916:ADA5:ED86:5406 (talk) 14:44, 9 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

I've lived in Albany for 16 years. Everyone here calls this The Dolly Parton Bridge. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.0.135.96 (talk) 19:54, 19 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

name spelling: Thaddeus Kosciusko vs Tadeusz Kościuszko edit

Restating what's clearly stated in the entry -

>For the bridge spanning Newtown Creek between Brooklyn and Queens, see Kosciuszko Bridge.
>The bridge is named (using an anglicized form) in honor of Tadeusz Kościuszko (1746–1817),

Their different name spellings distinguish between the upstate and downstate bridges. This Americanized spelling without the z is the usage on the official dot.ny.gov pages.-Yohananw (talk) 20:38, 18 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
