RED and ECN
editRED and ECN are not TCP variants in themselves. RED is a queueing algorithm designed to mark packets at random, signaling the sender to reduce the sending rate prior to congestion occurring. ECN is similar in that it explicitly notifies the sender of congestion. However, both RED and ECN can be used with several TCP variants providing that both the host and routers support them.
