While there has been a locally significant controversy about this, I don't think that it is quite notable enough for Wikipedia. Whether or not it is, the last sentence is clearly non-NPOV and probably original research. I doubt that the phenomenon of collecting tolls before the roads are built is unique on a global scale. The paragraph was added by an anonymous user with a Norwegian IP whose only contributions on Wikipedia have been to this article(on this subject and Jahn Teigen)[1]. I suggest that we replace it with something along these lines:
Lene Nystrøm (formerly of Aqua) edit
Im not very good with adding blurbs to articles, but imo there should also be included mention of Lene Nystrøm, formerly the female member of the band Aqua. I know that there is already mention of another musician from this town. Granted, some people may argue the importance of including her, but in my opinion it would be appropriate. Maybe someone with better wiki skills can take a look and insert a line or 2.
But Lene Nystrøm is not from Tønsberg. She is from Re (Ramnes).
As of January 1st, 2020, the area in which she grew up is within the boundaries of the new municipality but she did not strictly speaking grow up in the town of Tønsberg. I'm unaware of the practice Wikipedia has for things like this but I assume that when municipal boundaries are changed, the POI-list should be updated to reflect that. The map showing the boudary of Tønsberg is not exact as the Tønsberg kommune boundary actualy extends onto Nøtterøy. It covers a very small part of the Northern most tip of Nøtterøy.
History edit
Would there be any objections to refining the history section somewhat? As it stands now, it presents a 19th-century view on things. See the Norwegian (bokmål) edition for a more up to date variant.St12357 (talk) 05:54, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Under the History section, should there really be content included from a work of fiction? LIkely someone just slipped this in under the radar. Much as I enjoyed the movie Thor, I doubt including events from it in the history section is in any way responsible.

Hello, could someone please explain why is it that although the word "berg" would might mean "mountain" in Modern Standard German, but not necessarily in Old Norse, where the word "bergr" appears to possibly have meant "rock", and ,maybe also "boulder", "cliff", or "precipice ( some may argue that those aforementioned meanings for the Old Norse word of "bergr" might be similar to various meanings of the Modern Faroese word of "bergur", as well as to the Modern Icelandic word of "bergur" ) ", then the section of this article which deals with the name of Tønsberg only considers the word "berg" to mean "mountain", although it also refers to its name as being derived from Old Norse nonetheless ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.176.173.128 (talk) 18:38, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

Merge proposal edit
The distinction between Tønsberg and Tønsberg (town) articles is hard to follow; would it be better to have just one page? If kept separate, then it may be necessary to disentangle the contents which seem to be mixed, and I'm not sure that the Wikidata links are the correct way around.
