Bringing over relevant text inserted in Mair Rajput article edit

“Sunar: The occupational caste of goldsmiths and silversmiths. The name is derived from the Sanskrit Suvarna kār, a worker in gold. In 1911 the Sunārs numbered 96,000 persons in the Central Provinces and 30,000 in Berār. They live all over the Province and are most numerous in the large towns.”

“The Sunārs also have a story that they are the descendants of one of two Rājpūt brothers, who were saved as boys by a Sāraswat Brāhman from the wrath of Parasurāma when he was destroying the Kshatriyas. The descendants of the other brother were the Khatris. This is the same story as is told by the Khatris of their own origin, but they do not acknowledge the connection with Sunārs, nor can the Sunārs allege that Sāraswat Brāhmans eat with them as they do with Khatris.”

“Owing to their association with the sacred metal gold, and the fact that they generally live in towns or large villages, and many of their members are well-to-do, the Sunārs occupy a fairly high position, ranking equal with, or above the cultivating castes.”

Mair Rajputs are basically Sunars and this para should definitely be included in the article Mair Rajput. This should not have been deleted from the said article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 164.100.147.38 (talk) 09:49, 2 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Contested move edit

Someone recently moved this article to Mair Kshatriya Swarnkar. I have reverted them because (a) the article makes no mention of that name; (b) Sunar is in common use; (c) I suspect a dose of sanskritisation is going on. If anyone wants to move this article again then I suggest they consider the information and instructions given at Requested Moves.

I have also yet again removed recently added information that lacks decent sources. - Sitush (talk) 13:48, 6 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

It could also be the case that Mair Kshatriya Swarnkar should be deleted. Unless someone can come up with sources that verify the name and that it is used by at least some Sunar people etc, the thing serves no purpose and lacks verifiability. - Sitush (talk) 13:55, 6 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Arbitrary heading edit

“The caste have a number of subdivisions, nearly all of which are of the territorial class and indicate the various localities from which it has been recruited in these Provinces. The most important subcastes are the Audhia from Ajodhia or Oudh; the Purānia or old settlers; the Bundelkhandi from Bundelkhand; the Mālwi from Mālwa; the Lād from Lāt, the old name for the southern portion of Gujarāt; and the Mair, who appear to have been the first immigrants from Upper India and are named after Mair, the original ancestor, who melted down the golden demon.”

The “Mair” were the original ancestors who are popularly known as Mair Rajputs. They are both Hindus and Sikh Rajputs and practice as Goldsmiths in Haryana and Punjab Knowledgepool09 (talk) 13:10, 5 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Knowledgepool09:: we do not use Raj era sources (or even older ones) in caste-related articles. - Sitush (talk) 16:04, 5 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
