Types of quintets edit

The article currently says a quintet of 2 violins, 2 violas, and 1 cello is referred to as a viola quintet. I do not think this is accurate. A viola quintet refers to a quintet of 5 violas. Likewise, a cello quintet refers to a quintet of 5 cellos. Just do a google image search and see. - The Aviv (talk) 12:40, 26 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

does the development of the string quartet into the string quintet rely only on the addition of another string instrument, or is the structure of the movements change also? this added on May 7 2007 by 80.2.57.227

Just in the instrument, due I think to their common origin as portable symphonies (to summarize a theory advanced by- among others? - Alfred Einstein)... Schissel | Sound the Note! 22:07, 23 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Reformat list edit

I thought grouping the list of composers by sub ensemble would be more useful, so I did so. I trust no one is offended. Op47 (talk) 21:50, 28 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Cite requests edit

I asked for cites for the Beethoven transcription of the Kreutzer Sonata because it is not in my supposedly complete works of Beethoven CD collection, and otherwise have never heard of it. Please only include it if it was made by Beethoven.

I also asked for a cite for the transcription of the Brahms clarinet quintet because, although it undoubtedly exists, I have my doubts that it was written by Brahms voluntarily (if at all). If it can be shown that Brahms thought this was a good idea then fine. Op47 (talk) 21:54, 28 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Definition edit

So a string quintet is a composition for four string musicians playing five instruments? Does that mean one of the musicians is playing two instruments alternately? 98.119.155.81 (talk) 01:29, 13 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Mozart KV 525 edit

Does that count as a double bass quintet? It can certainly be performed with that instrumentation, and sometimes has. Double sharp (talk) 13:27, 22 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Layout diagrams edit

In the two illustrations "violincello" is written instead of "violoncello". Please, someone, correct! Mxyzptlk (talk) 07:43, 22 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Well spotted! These would best be modified by someone with access to the original files. Personally, I would prefer "Cello" instead of "Violoncello": it's a much more common term, and it would fit in the space better without having to split the word. --Deskford (talk) 11:26, 22 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
