Talk:Strategic communication

I'll do itEdit

Strategic Communication is probably what separates modern and post-modern strategic thinking, so certainly an article to be retained and developed--mrg3105 (comms) ♠♣ 07:59, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Commercial aspects of Strategic CommunicationsEdit

There are many multi-million dollar firms that provide "strategic communications" consulting to corporations, political campaigns and non profits. Hell, you can major in it at a top ranked journalism school! See: See:

Strat Comm is best thought of as a sub-discipline of public relations and/or public affairs. In fact, it you were to judge importance strictly by the amount of money spent, I have now doubt that the military aspect of this practice would be DWARFED by the commercial aspects.

All that said, when you read this line:

"Focused United States Government efforts to understand and engage key audiences to create, strengthen, or preserve conditions favorable for the advancement of United States Government interests, policies, and objectives through the use of coordinated programs, plans, themes, messages, and products synchronized with the actions of all instruments of national power" can pretty much just swap in Cause X for USG or national interests. I don't care if it's Exxon Mobil or the World Wildlife Foundation, they're all thinking like that when they build their communications strategies. It's a hell of a lot more like politics than "information warfare".

In sum, this article needs to be rewritten to reflect the true bulk of activity that occurs under this "title": political and commercial, not military. — Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk) 02:01, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
