Merger

• Oppose In British Columbia, highways designated with an A, B, C, etc... are NOT necessarily spurs of that numbered highway; they are their own provincial highways. In fact, some lettered highways are actually some of the province's busiest, such as British Columbia Highway 97C (which is listed on a subpage due to the large amount of lettered highways of Hwy 97, but probably could qualify for its own page). • Strong Oppose Has the person proposing this ever been up into that country, or much around BC? It's a long ways from Meziadin Junction to Stewart; the Stewart-Cassiar and Stewart Highways are not the same thing (the name "Stewart-CAssiar" is used all the way to Watson Lake; "the Cassiar Highway" is an unused term, the other alternate is the Dease Lake Highway, which may only mean past Meziadian I'm not sure). Numbered highways have to remain separate; 7 vs 7A, 1 vs 1A. 99A vs 99/499 (King George Highway vs the White Rock-Richmond Freeway and Oak Street, then zigged right onto Broadway, left onto Cambie, and somehow with the Lions Gate and Taylor Way to merge with the 401 for a ways; 99A ends downtown, its last leg is Kingsway. All important distinctions, and the distinction between 37 and 37A is important and very distinct.Skookum1 (talk) 04:59, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
  • I have been to BC, and spent a decent amount of time in the lower portion of the province. And I am aware, as an avid roadgeek, that highways have to have separate distinctions, however, it appears to me that 37A is a branch of 37, considering 37A branches off from 37. I am trying to help the Canada Roads WikiProject reduce stubs at the moment, and this is one way to do that. If you feel this strong about keeping 37A as a separate article, please feel free to expand it. --Admrboltz (talk) 05:09, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
• Comment: This appears at first glance to be separately notable, though perhaps more famous as being the "Glacier Highway" than 37A. Isn't this road fairly well-known for being the sole international road into a section of Alaska (Hyder) that has no other land route? Though, to be fair, Google Earth is showing me an "NFD 88 Rd" northwest from Hyder around the other side of Mount Welker back across the border to Premier, British Columbia. Is NFD 88 Road actually Salmon River Road? And is there any way for Premier to reach the rest of Canada except back through Hyder?   • Yes, that's right, Premier can only be accessed via Alaska, like the other mines/towns that were up in there. This is also the area of the new mine just announced, can't remember its name this morning, and similar road issues apply. You can't fight mountains....and the border in that area is an absurdity only distant politicians with no comprehension of the terrain could have mandated.Skookum1 (talk) 02:59, 4 January 2015 (UTC)

NARROWCAT deletions of cats reverted

I've read through WP:NARROWCAT and fail to see how it applies; it doesn't. This highway transits the three regions whose cats were removed; there's a general cat embracing them Category:Northern Interior of British Columbia but IMO it's too general as it includes the rest of the province east of these regions and is too "vague".Skookum1 (talk) 02:56, 4 January 2015 (UTC)

Can we change the caption of the main photo?

"Two ravens on the road in the distance looking for roadkill. Low clouds mist the mountains near Good Hope Lake B.C. People said they wanted to see the original of previous shot in large and in black so click on this to have that view. 0ff to Whitehorse Yukon today to do some mortgage paperwork... 5 hr drive to sign banking renewal papers... welcome to northern living."

This is clearly silly, unprofessional, and inappropriate for the article. Bomb319 (talk) 16:44, 20 December 2020 (UTC)

So, what that is is not the local caption, but rather the image's description over at Wikimedia Commons (which you can also edit using this same account). I see that it was uploaded over there by a bot that automatically transfers freely licensed images from Flikr. So, what's happened here is that someone uploaded this to Flikr with that caption, with no idea it would ever end up being used on Wikipedia.

All that being said, I agree it is decidedly unhelpful, both for here and for Commons. Bots, you get what you pay for. Beeblebrox (talk) 19:21, 20 December 2020 (UTC)
