I have undone the good faith edits of an IP editor who added parents for Stephen Northup. While several websites discuss possible parentage for Northup, this is only speculation, and no definitive conclusions have been made as to his provenance. The body of the article discusses two possibilities for Stephen's parents that are "out there" but the reader needs to know that this is speculation; it is possible but by no means proven. It would be inappropriate to include parents for Stephen Northup unless there is well documented material that is presented in a scholarly journal such as the New England Historic Genealogical Register, The American Genealogist or Rhode Island Roots. While it is very attractive to make Henry Northup the father of Stephen, there are other equally plausible alternatives, and it is highly presumptive to make the connection without some hard evidence, or a scholarly analysis of why this would be so.Sarnold17 (talk) 00:52, 5 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
