Was also a homophobe. I can't believe this article fails to mention that, the running gag of the show is his aversion to Jack Tripper, who he believes is gay (but really isn't). Anytime Jack gets physically close to him, Stan treats him like a leper. He won't shake his hand or hug him or even sit close to him. He also has a penchant for cracking homophobic jokes (e.g, referring to Jack as a "Tinkerbell", insinuates that any of his male friends must be lovers, shows extreme shock at the fact that Jack was a boxer in the U.S. Navy). Yet Jack being gay is the only reason Roper allows him to share an apartment with two women, however he doesn't know that Jack is actually straight, yet Roper is the only person who does not know this.
