The external link used for reference in this article describes them as "semi-armored cruisers", because they were essentially a protected cruiser design (the Columbia-class cruiser) that was improved by adding a thin armored belt. 207.98.198.84 (talk) 22:36, 20 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
