Just a thought
editI need to point out that Saudi Arabia has a lot of special relationships, like the US, they've been connected economically, militaristic-ally and politically, as well as other arabian states. Also with pakistan (I must Regret) even on their Wikipedia page it say it their.
Just a thought
editBut maybe having so many "special relationships" means that they are not quite so special? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.123.191.190 (talk) 07:21, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
- They are unique in comparison to the other relations those countries have, not as relations in general. Bataaf van Oranje (Prinsgezinde) (talk) 12:50, 15 May 2016 (UTC)
Other terms to define international relations
editAre there other terms to categorize other international relations? (e.g. I'm asking if there is any term to categorize the exact opposite of "Special Relations", such as Russia-United States relations)
Negative Relationships
editCould a "special relationship" also include relationships between nations that have been consistently negative, like North Korea-US relations for instance? Zobango (talk) 23:39, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
- North Korea has bad relations with nearly every country so that hardly applies. See Frozen conflict though. Bataaf van Oranje (Prinsgezinde) (talk) 12:56, 15 May 2016 (UTC)
Expand
editI think there are several relationships that could be added. Such as:
- Abkhazia–Russia relations
- Algeria–Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic relations
- Andorra–France relations
- Armenia–Russia relations
- Austria–Germany relations
- China–North Korea relations
- Czech Republic–Slovakia relations
- France–United Kingdom relations
- Iran–Iraq relations
- Iran–Syria relations
- Ireland–United Kingdom relations
- Jordan–Saudi Arabia relations
- Kazakhstan–Russia relations
- Lesotho–South Africa relations
- Namibia–South Africa relations
- Netherlands–United Kingdom relations — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.115.114.245 (talk) 08:37, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
- Norway–Sweden relations
- Portugal–Spain relations
- Russia–Serbia relations
- Russia–South Ossetia relations
- South Korea–United States relations
- Taiwan–United States relations
Charles Essie (talk) 20:37, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
- Many of these are recent and/or have been regarding certain issues. For a "special relationship", more is generally necessary. I agree with several of these though. We just need citations. Bataaf van Oranje (Prinsgezinde) (talk) 12:53, 15 May 2016 (UTC)

Arbitrary
editThis list seems pretty arbitrary. I don't see any clear definition or any authoritative source used to establish what nations actually have "special relationships". I would argue that either a solid source needs to be found or else this list has to be considered original research and needs to be removed.
-- MC 141.131.2.3 (talk) 15:48, 28 October 2018 (UTC)
- This should be based on WP:RS and RS only.--Calthinus (talk) 16:44, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
Yes this entire list is random. What exactly is the "German-China" special relationship? Its not even mentioned once on the China-German relations article.
You have like 60+ random "special relationships" extrapolating off the well known UK-US relationship. This is original research.

Special...
editHow can India-U.S. relation be a special relation since U.S. has 9 more "special" relations and India 6 more "special" relations? If we are considering all relations which are more than usual diplomatic relationships, I think we would have a really longer list: for example, good neighbours, like almost all bordering countries in Europe (especially Scandinavia, Benelux, Switzerland with its neighbours...), Spain and Morocco, Turkey and Turkish countries, all Commonwealth countries between each other, Brazil and Argentina... I propose to limitate it to 4 each.

- Special Relationship isn't exclusively an "American with British" thing. Many countries have Special Relationships, America also refers to Canada as a Special Relationship too. CaribDigita (talk) 17:20, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
Add request
editHello, I think we should add France-Lebanon relations:
- https://www.arabnews.com/node/1727646/middle-east "Paris is virtually the only power that has always worked for the unity, stability and sovereignty of Lebanon. A special friendship connects the two countries beyond strategic and economic interests — a friendship epitomized by President Macron’s words in Beirut on Aug. 6: “Because it’s you, because it’s us.”"

Just a Thought
editAlthough Socialist Albania and PRC were quite close during a period of time, modern day Albania and PRC no longer have any significant relations. I think the Albania-China relationship is no longer a special one, as no major economic, cultural, diplomatic or technical exchanges occur now. They have drifted apart and hence, should not be included in this article. Instead, relations like Russia-Kazakhstan, India-Japan, Cuba-Venezuela and Brazil-Japan should be mentioned.
