Hi, I'm concerned about the lack of citations in the introductory section of this article, particularly the last two paragraphs. Can editors address this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lbliss (talkcontribs) 14:29, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

New comment:

E.W. Winkler, Associate Editor, states in his book review of Handbook of American Indians North of Mexico,
(Vol. XV, No. 2, October 1911, The Quarterly of the Texas State Historical Association, Page 169)that the TRUE character of the
Texas missions as "Indian missions" has been obscured.
The missions were built mostly with Native American labor for the Native Americans. As a matter of fact, title to the mission
properties was given to the various tribes in the San Antonio, Texas, area on March 5, 1731, four days before the arrival in San
Antonio of the much publicized Canary Island Settlers. The title meant that the properties did not belong to the King or to the
Church - They belonged to Native Americans and not Spaniards.

There is no reference to Mission San Francisco de los Tejas, the first Spanish mission in the Texas province (ca 1692). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.155.148.113 (talk) 23:28, 21 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
