Kyle Critchell & Craig Richards

A note on British English

British English should be used for articles on Britain related topics. Likewise, American English should be used on articles pertaining to American topics. For a clearer example, please visit this sub-section on the differences between their usage. However, is" works better than "are" with the term club as it is a singular and not a plural noun. This section is now rather out of date. The section was moved to an article of its own some time ago, and has been renamed South Coast Derby. Leon Best

Pardon my ignorance, but why is Leon Best showing an Irish flag against his name in "out on loan", when his article says he was born in Nottingham and doesn't mention anything about playing for Ireland? -- Arwel (talk) 20:05, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Famous Fans

General Improvements

I've gone a bit mad tinkering with various things today, and it's got me thinking we need to decide on exactly which bits need work to get this article up to scratch. I reckon a shorter history section, (have a sub article instead), fewer notable players, no-more famous fans unless part of a more general supporters section, a section on the kit and brief description of how it's changed over the years and more about the crest and anthem. Would it be possible to get records for the individual managers too, like a lot of other clubs have? Any other ideas or thoughts? Or am I just being stupid? Dan Kerins 18:10, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

I've created a new page entitled History of Southampton F.C., with the hope of having a shorter history on this article and a more in depth one elsewhere. All I've done so far is copy and paste the history over, but haven't touched this article yet. Dan Kerins 17:10, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

The Trust

Kit graphic

Fairly minor thing, but I'm not too sure how to change it.

The stripes on the home kit appear to be the wrong way around - red should be white and vice versa. Could someone change it please, or at least explain to me how to change it without completely making a mess of it! Thanks. Dan K (talk) 10:17, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

If we set the criterion that they should have been full internationals whilst with Saints, then some of these should go. I have deleted Lezama & Ali Dia on these grounds. We will need to go through the others and check each one out. There are also players from the more distant past who maybe should be included; e.g. Arthur Chadwick - more research is needed! Intro

I agree entirely. I'm sure that with a bit of work we can bring this article up to a much higher standard. There are too many lists for my liking, many of which could be relegated to sub-articles. I updated one of the statements to be better written. But it also said the highest-ever finish by Southampton was 2nd place. Crest

They're threatening to delete the crest., so I've uploaded a new one with a fair-use rationale (and it has a black border on the halo - the other one didn't and looked a bit funny IMHO). Dan Kerins 11:06, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

I note the flower in the crest was referred to as a 'Mayflower'. As used on the City Crest. I thought the City Crest was based on one large White Rose, and two smaller Red Roses, going back to the events in the War of the Roses, when Southampton was asked which side they were on. They displayed a shield of Half Red, and Half White with the Roses attached to the shield in the order as above. Leaving either side to guess which side the City (Town at that time) was on. I note someone keeps removing Sam Argent from the 1st team squad list on the basis he's not in the 1st team squad on the official site. Neither are Harlee Dean, Andy Crosby or Aarran Racine. Old logo

Jason Puncheon

Squad table format

A discussion is being held here on the possibility of rolling out a new squad template. The new template, named {{football squad player2}}, differs from the standard squad layout in several ways:

• It features a sort function
• Comes in a single column format that can be understood by screen readers.
  • Single column format ensures that low resolution browsers, including mobile devices, do not get part or all of the second column cut off.
  • Single column format ensures less clutter, particularly at lower resolutions, for wide sections such as the Arsenal loan section.
• It gives nationality its own column; at present flags are featured in a blank, untitled column
• It complies with Wikipedia's guidance on flag usage.
• It leaves enough space to add images of current players, an example of which can be seen at Watford F.C#Current squad.

It is proposed that the new template be added to some of Wikipedia's most high-profile club articles, which might include Southampton F.C.. To give your thoughts, please read and contribute to the discussion at WikiProject Football.

I notice if you click on the picture of the Trophy Cabinet the ground is still rferred to as: The trophy cabinet inside Friends Provident St Mary's Football Stadium. Home of the 'Saints' Southampton Football Club. Friends Provident have not been included in the name for a while now. Can someone change it? Hagiology

Of what particular relevance is the section on Hagiology Publishing? From what I can tell, it's just a fan-run publishing house concerned with publications relating to the club, whose chief members happen to be the club's official statisticians. The company doesn't appear to be particularly notable, with its only independent citation coming from a BBC book review that doesn't particularly focus on the publisher itself. Seems like the section is a remnant from when articles were written by people like Gary Chalk and Duncan Holley, and not what any typical reader would be searching for when reading this article.
