Cast

edit

The cast listing should also include what character each actor plays. Itsmeiam 22:28, 11 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Added the characters in. --kudsy 23:03, 11 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

"While the characters they play are homosexual, both Gabrielle Christian and Mandy Musgrave are heterosexual." Really, I don't think it really falls under "notable" that the actors are, in fact, acting. This is an article about the show, and even if this did warrant being in this article, it sure doesn't warrant being in the summary paragraph. I've removed it. If you really, really need to get your "are they, aren't they?" on, do it on the actor's pages. 96.10.70.106 04:14, 2 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

That's fine *shrug* I agree with that. It was only there because a few weeks ago people wouldn't stop creating a trivia list containing that and stuff like "the cast members used to use Nokias, and now they use so-and-so brand" or "the house was in a Burger King commercial." At the time, I just integrated whatever actually dealt with the shows/characters into the rest of the article and the character bios just to keep the list from constantly being reverted back into the article. --kudsy 17:23, 2 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Cast again

edit

Chris Hunter (female hockey player) is not the same Chris Hunter that is in SoN... can you please take note when doing any editing that you use the chris hunter actor link, as i've just had to update the wikilinks. there may be some i've missed, i updated here, on the list of characters page and the actual character page for glen. if there are others, then those will need updating.

can someone create a disambiguation page for chris hunter? there's also another chris hunter that's an actor, and again, his links link to the female hockey player (found this out by going to the hockey players page and clicking what links here...)

i would do it, but i can't remember how to at this precise moment, and i have like 5 minutes before i go offline. just in case i forget to do it at a later time (which i probs will, bad memory...) geeness 194.221.133.226 15:07, 23 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Weasal Words

edit

The comparison to degrassi section has some weasal words that need to be cleaned up such as some would say and something that has been complained about time and time again. These don't cite any sources for the complaint and need to be fixed SirGrant 00:44, 15 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I agree. This section is vague and poorly written as well. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.211.138.223 (talkcontribs) .

section 3, character bios, Sean Miller

edit

The term "reverse racist" in the description of Sean Miller is problematic. It suggests that it is somehow normal/ expected/ appropriate to have racist feelings against some people--typically people of color and/or recent immigrants--and that to have racist feelings against white people is somehow "reversed." It is not right for anyone to be racist against any group, is it?

If anyone judges anyone else on the basis of race or ethnicity, he or she is a racist. In other words, anyone can be racist, and the term "reverse" should not be used.

Therefore, the sentence should read, "He sometimes wonders if Sean is racist" or "He sometimes wonders if Sean is racist about white people" if more specificity is necessary. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.211.138.223 (talkcontribs) .

section 3, character bios, Spencer and Clay Carlin

edit

I can't access the source link for the spoilers regarding the fates of these two characters after the finale of season 2. I Googled the article but couldn't find the actual text of it anywhere. So, as far as I can tell, those spoilers are totally unsourced...

The external links section was getting way out of hand so I deleted most of the links yesterday. Before adding anything back in, please take a look at the policy for external links. We should have one, notable fan site at most, but we should strive to only include a couple official sites. All the links I deleted were fan-sites and none of them were particularly notable. To get into specifics:

  • Anything in any language other than English was deleted (there were SIX of them!) because we are on the English wiki article. Take them to the wiki sites dealing with their specific language if they must be included.
  • AfterEllen doesn't contain much substance with regard to the show (just some random interviews and pictures) and the site's priority is not South of Nowhere.
  • www.southofnowhereonline.com South of Nowhere online.com is almost 100% for fan fic which is 100% not acceptable for Wikipedia.
  • Spashley.net is a forum based around only two characters in the show where one must actually join to see any messages. Also, very not notable according to Alexa.

After this, I'm going to add the linkspam warning for the external links section. If you really want a site to be included, bring it up here first and gain consensus from other editors or it's going to get automatically deleted. Thank you. --pIrish 14:17, 2 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

There are many issues with your deletion of the external links. For one, After Ellen has a large amount of information on the show, such as interviews and episode recaps. Second, a website does not have to be notable to be listed as as External Link. WP:Notability applies to the article subjects. Those are just two examples and I inserted the After Ellen link back into the page. I also deleted your warning, as this article is in no way subject to frequent spamming or vandalism and the talk page has little activity. - Cyborg Ninja 17:58, 5 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Please read WP:EL. External links have to fit those guidelines to be included. Those guidelines include notability as a requirement for external links. The warning may not be necessary since this isn't subject to frequent spamming. However, being that the article is about a television show and television shows usually have many fansites about them, it might be good to have it in as a deterrent for webmasters or members of those sites to not include the links on a whim. Just something to think about. --74.137.227.117 15:07, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't like this show. Not bashing or anything, but I don't think it should be broadcast on the N for teenagers. The N needs more shows like the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Be that as it may, this isn't supposed to be a forum for discussion on how good/bad this article's subject is. The N website has some though. Cliff smith 01:30, 9 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
why shouldn't it be broadcast on the N for teenagers? it's a show about teenagers, made for teenagers... it's also dealing with a topic that some teenagers go through. why shouldn't they have a programme that deals with the issues that affect them? sexuality is no longer an adult thing, it's about time the world realised that. if teenagers are struggling with their sexuality, and watching this programme (and others like it) helps them to understand, then no one has the right to stop them. watching old episodes of the fresh prince is surreal, it seems out dated and over the top, it makes me wonder how it was so popular! and yes, i did watch it. to be honest, your comment DOES sound like bashing. and like cliff said, there are forums for this, it's not needed here. altho i bet you've tried the forums and have been shot down in flames... sorry, just felt the need to address the comment, i notice it went unsigned... Wikia

edit

I've started a South of Nowhere wiki at Wikia. Suggest all fancruft be moved there. Most of the character stuff, for instance, does not look suitable for Wikipedia. --OGoncho 07:25, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

LGBT?

edit

This show is in the category "LGBT-related television", but there's no mention in the article as to why. Can someone either add the info or remove the cat and project banner? Thanks! -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 16:33, 2 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

It states that Ashley is "out and proud", and implies the homosexual relationship between Ashley and Spencer. While I would agree that the description should be better, I would say that the LGBT relevance is adequately noted. --OGoncho (talk) 08:24, 3 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Music

edit

For Wiki-citation obsessives: The data regarding the alteration of theme music on iTunes, Unbox, and DVD releases is from primary sources, namely viewing the episodes in each version. There are no solid secondary sources at this point, but the primary sources are very clear-cut. This is notable information regarding the show, so don't delete it. 24.58.158.206 (talk) 03:50, 31 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

false statements in Lede

edit

"It was the first series on The N to deal with such a subject relating to the main characters, and the first television show ever to have gay teenagers as the top-billed characters."

Dawson's Creek had Jack McPhee who was gay in 1999. [[Buffy the Vampire Slayer (TV series)|Buffy the Vampire Slayer]] had Willow and Tara as gay characters, in 1999. My So-Called Life had Rickie Vasquez in 1994. All these gay characters were top-billed, and all were teens. Degrassi: The Next Generation, which aired on The N, had three gay characters: Marco del Rossi was introduced in 2002, and became a top-billed character in 2003, Paige Michalchuk, a main character since 2001 came out in 2005, and her girlfriend Alex Nunez, was introduced in a recurring role in 2003, became a top billex character in 2005, and also came out in 2005. I have removed that unsourced statement. Problem solved. Cadiomals (talk) 19:10, 5 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
