Warrington - Lancashire edit

I don't mean to be pendantic, and I'm not exactly a military history buff. However, Warrington should be listed as Lancashire on this page for the following reasons; 1) The Regiment was created in 1881, before the Local Government Act of 1888. The Regiment was therefore based on what we now call 'historic' or 'ancient counties' of which Warrington is still apart of. 2) Even if we do suppose applying the administrative policy. The Regiment was disbanded in 1958. 14 years before the boundary changes of LGA of 1972. Therefore the Regiment was always based in Lancashire historically and administratively. 3) The contentious reason that it is nonsensical to have a Regiment County stationed in another county, which if anything, would make more it confusing for the reader.

I think in this instance it's only sensible to acknowledge the history of Warrington's association being in Lancashire, and not to be naive in presuming Warrington is not in modern day Cheshire. An index of metals (talk) 16:48, 4 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Citations in the lead section edit

So WP:LEAD suggests that leads are evaluated on a case-by-case basis for the need of citations. I think that this article's lead ought to have citations. The lead contains dates and years. Since it is just a short summary of the history section, transferring some citations from the history section to the lead should be enough. Sociable Song (talk) 18:01, 2 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

I have added the citations as requested even though they appeared in the main text. Please observe WP:DRIVEBY. Always remember that it may be easy to fix it yourself. Dormskirk (talk) 18:13, 2 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Military Medal: 15415 Sergeant William Henry Cartwright, 2nd Bn. South Lancashire Regiment edit

My grandfather William Henry Cartwright of Birkenhead was nominated for and approved for the Military Medal and was informed he would receive it within seven weeks. This occurred in 1916 when his rank was Lance Corporal. However due to the death of his commanding officers (Lieutenant Noel D. Morris and Second Lieutenant Herbert P. Peacocks) he never received it. On behalf of his grandchildren and great grandchildren it is my most sincere desire over one century later that the medal be awarded posthumously. I need your assistance in making this happen and will provide any further information that I can. Looking forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.
