“incorrectly referred to as Ireland South” edit

Is it our place to comment on a media style, and whether they’re wrong to do so? Their reasons may be to provide clarity within an article, to avoid having a simple compass direction in the text. A common name need not be the legal name. Is it incorrect to call the Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for the Home Department the Home Secretary? The term Ireland South is widely used, I heard it this week in a video from Andrew Doyle, and I'd hazard a guess a scan of leaflets and videos from other candidates would show the same.

It would be different if the name were changed somehow that altered its meaning, or conflated titles, for example, if this had continued to be referred to as Munster after 2004, or Dún Laoghaire (Dáil constituency) being referred to as Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown. —Iveagh Gardens (talk) 10:42, 11 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Irish Freedom edit

Given IFP's candidates are independents in this election should we not display them as such? It would be misleading, especially when they will appear differently on the ballot paper? Irishpolitical (talk) 09:57, 19 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

2019 recount edit

According to RTE, "Ms Ní Riada is in a tight battle with the Green Party's Grace O'Sullivan, and Fine Gael's Deirdre Clune, with one of the three set to miss out. The recount request follows a recheck of the vote of Sinn Féin's Liadh Ní Riada and the Green Party's Grace O'Sullivan." So presumably Ní Riada and O'Sullivan are neck-and-neck, with Clune some distance ahead of or behind both of them. Does anyone know which it is? If Clune is ahead, then she is likely to become an MEP immediately and Ní Riada and O'Sullivan are in contention for the 'Brexit seat'. If Clune is behind, then Ní Riada and O'Sullivan are in contention to see which will become an MEP immediately and which will get the 'Brexit seat'. Alekksandr (talk) 20:40, 30 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

According to Elections Ireland, Clune and O'Sullivan have been elected in that order, so presumably Ní Riada and O'Sullivan are in contention for the 'Brexit seat', and the recount will determine which of them gets it?Alekksandr (talk) 20:57, 30 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Details of the counts are at the Independent's site. Clune is on 101,102, O'Sullivan on 98,706 and Ní Riada on 98,379.Alekksandr (talk) 21:11, 30 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
