Ummm....sorry for being an idiot, I had no idea the text would all run together. Can someone tell me how to list the items in the discography and members section? - tom —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Oldy (talkcontribs) .

Demonstrated on the page. Also, see Wikipedia:How to edit a page and have a play in Wikipedia:Sandbox EddEdmondson 13:58, 31 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Why? edit

Why are people calling this band emo? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 206.176.107.150 (talkcontribs) .

Aren't they? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.175.227.66 (talkcontribs) . why are they calling this band emo, BECAUSE THEY ARE!!!—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 4.158.219.154 (talkcontribs).

They are not Emo and they are not Rock either - they are piano rock. They call themselves Piano rock and their music is Piano driven and uses other instruments like Guitar bass and drums. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.38.65.47 (talk) 15:43, 11 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

How can u say they are not rock? hello, piano rock. i think i see the word rock there, even if it is piano driven. And i think its credible to say tey are emo. if u look at the lyrics from North, it talks about hes probly gonna scew up his life and it references to Jimmy Eat World, which are pretty much emo —Preceding unsigned comment added by Iandrummer204 (talkcontribs) 01:28, 2 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

not emo, let's get that removed as musically it doesn't make sense.--24.245.39.96 (talk) 07:12, 25 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'd like to reintroduce this discussion. The above comments offer no reason why this band isn't emo. If one objectively looks at both this encyclopedia's definition of the genre [[1]] along with the band's tone, lyrics, and "feel," it seems clear it is emo. Moreover, while there is a piano base to the music, I don't think it's at all reasonably fair to place this band in the same category as say Ben Folds Five or even Fiona Apple. JJShuba (talk) 15:40, 3 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry, they're just not emo. They have some emo influences I guess you could say, but it is easy to describe them as piano rock which is what they are. A rock band using a piano, hence the name piano rock. Plus, many of their greatest influences were Billy Joel, etc. backing up the notion they are definitely piano rock. Further more, emo is a clearly defined subset of hardcore punk ("emotional hardcore") and SoCo is not hardcore punk, they are more of the pop-punk subset.--HistoryFan22 (talk) 05:52, Thursday June 5, 2008 (UTC —Preceding comment was added at 06:01, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Guys, we can't forget Wikipedia rules. If they describe themselves as "piano rock", then we have to record that.

Furthermore, its not our decision as to what to consider them, but rather to record what other notable bodies refer to them as. aka, if you find a source the refers to them as emo, then write it in. But until then, they're not.

  • Emo music is defined by sound, not lyrical content. Actual emo music is more punk than what people call emo today. By definition, no, Something Corporate is not emo. Rwiggum (Talk/Contrib) 02:18, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

So this band is labeled as Emo, based on a 6 year old article from a student newspaper? An article which defines the band as Emo at the start and pop-punk at the end? Surely if the wikipedia article is going to insist that the band is emo, a more confident source should be cited? Votingprawn (talk) 13:27, 23 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Emo? Really? Come on, that's ridiculous. Somebody please change this! Thanks. 69.205.59.20 (talk) 03:13, 17 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Former members edit

William Tell? I don't know whether this is true or a joke. In any case I have removed the link as I don't believe that the legendary Tell played for SoCo! TDE 20:47, 7 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

No, that's correct. Their former guitarist is indeed called William Tell. The link however was incorrect... --HarryCane 16:40, 8 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

OAR? edit

Something Corporate isn't touring with OAR this summer. Jack's Mannequin, however, is. Should the info re: OAR/summer tour be removed from here as it comes off as slightly misleading? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.112.171.251 (talkcontribs) .

Discography edit

What about the NapsterLive Acoustic EP? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 129.13.186.2 (talkcontribs) .

Well, it's just a live recording of a single song (I wouldn't consider it an EP). I find it rather unnotable... --HarryCane 11:34, 26 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Associated Acts edit

Why is Streamline listed as an associated act? I don't believe they have any members in common. Is this just a sneaky plug for Streamline (whom I happen to like, by the way)?VaneWimsey (talk) 16:35, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

The "Associated Acts" section isn't just for bands with members in common. It's also for bands that have collaborated together, toured together, or just worked together multiple times. I don't know anything about Streamline, so I'm not going to make the call to leave it or remove it. Rwiggum (Talk/Contrib) 00:42, 16 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. I was confused because, as it turns out, there's more than one band called Streamline.VaneWimsey (talk) 16:35, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Relevance of "I Woke Up in a Car" remix edit

Near the end of the the Reunion section, there's a sentence stating, "Adam Young of Owl City is producing a new remix of the song, I Woke Up in a Car." Is this fact really relevant to the article, especially this section about their reunion? It seems more like promotion of Adam Young. Sleeping143 (talk) 02:38, 17 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
