To not merge. Klbrain (talk) 12:01, 7 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

I propese that Solar observatory be merged into this article. My rationale for the proposal is that 'Solar observatory' has very little content and the two terms seem to be quite synonymous - List of solar telescopes includes a lot places with 'observatory' in their names. I'm unconvinced. I see them a logically separate topics. As currently written, the "solar telescope" article sort of focuses on optical solar telescopes while other telescopes exist. If anything, I think merging "solar telescope" to "solar observatory" right be the better way around. Jason Quinn (talk) 20:01, 23 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Does the section "Amateur solar telescopes" merge well into solar observatory? A silhouette of the sun using a telescope, does that account for a solar observatory? In other words, does the minimalist definition of a solar telescope account for a solar observatory? If so they can merge. otherwise there would have to be some type of compromise to make it work. Oppose the merge, on the grounds that the two topics are distinct and arguably deserve their own pages, with Solar telescope being the more important topic. Klbrain (talk) 21:18, 27 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Coelostat edit

Why does "coelostat" redirect here? There's no mention of the device anywhere on the page. No doubt a coelostat is used for tracking the sun's movement, but it's hardly limited to that function, any more than prisms are limited to use in solar telescopes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.239.199.172 (talk) 01:32, 22 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
