National Petroleum Company of the Congo → Société nationale des pétroles du Congo — Relisted. Vegaswikian (talk) 03:40, 16 January 2011 (UTC) Société nationale des pétroles du Congo is an official name of the company while the National Petroleum Company of the Congo is a translation of the name. As a rule, company names not translated or the translation is added to original name. Société nationale des pétroles du Congo is the original name of this article; however, it was moved without discussion to the current name. Beagel (talk) 10:18, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
- Comment: In reading the current version of Wikipedia:Naming conventions (companies), I fail to see any rule that says "company names are not translated". The only thing that would be related would be the "common usage is preferred" rule. So is "Société nationale des pétroles du Congo" more commonly used than "National Petroleum Company of the Congo"? - Comment The proposer is correct that company names are not usually translated, unless there is evidence of common English language useage. However, they do follow English Wikipedia conventions on capital letters. The correct move would be to Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo, which appears to be where the article was until June 2010. Skinsmoke (talk) 01:47, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
