Conflicting statements edit

Anon user had added this line : "siliguri also has a new stadium called the indoor stadium near desbandhupara. minor indoor games, including tennis and table tennis tournaments are held here." It conflicts with the statement in Sports section which says there is only 1 stadium in the town. Is it the same stadium ? Jay 11:43, 17 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

media edit

Is it sensible to list all available media? I think only newspapers etc. that actually are from Siliguri should be mentioned. Otherwise every other city article should list available media, too... --117.201.119.150 (talk) 09:12, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Figures/demographics edit

Figures mentioning population numbers do not correspond to western guidelines:Introduction, line 6, in article:" (...) 7,01,489 (Not at all 19,01,489. Please check)..." Infobox: Population 5,09,709. Wrong information regarding earthquake edit

Under Climate section of the page, it is mentioned there was an earthquake in 1988 with a magnitude of 9.7, which is a mistake. The largest earthquake in recorded history is of magnitude 9.5 in Chile https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lists_of_earthquakes#Largest_earthquakes_by_magnitude, so this cannot possibly be 9.7. The earthquake this article is referring to could be this one https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1988_Nepal_earthquake. If someone can confirm this and make changes accordingly, it would be great. Also, I think it should be mentioned under Geography rather than Climate.Cx3z (talk) 16:50, 18 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

I don't feel improves the quality of the article, yet I'm not reverting it because it appears GFE and I'm not a scholar on the subject. Could someone else have a look at it? Thanks L3X1 (talk) 15:04, 3 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

I don't know what a diff is, but here is the URL: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Siliguri&oldid=758108582 . It's the latest revision, I detected it from RCP. He changed: It was named New Jalpaiguri as it is located in the Jalpaiguri District. It is located 35 km away from the city. This station connects both the twin cities of Jalpaiguri City and Siliguri to the rest of the country by railway. to It is located in the city but as it is in the Jalpaiguri District so it is named after Jalpaiguri but it is also know as "Siliguri Station". This station connects Siliguri to the rest of the country by railway. There are grammatical errors, but I am treading cautiously after having been warned for over zealous vandal patrolling.L3X1 (talk) 15:36, 3 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Overprocessed photos edit

Most of the photos on Siliguri page look garish as they seem to be overprocessed with excessive contrast and colour saturation. I think they should be replaced by photos that reflect reality better. I live in Siliguri and can vouch for the fact that the actual environment isn't as 'colourful' as depicted in the photos :) FaramRK (talk) 13:31, 23 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

History section not factual edit

Please add sources to the History section for the various claims being made. Also, this section reads more like a tourist or local administration advertisement/brochure rather than a fact based article. There are also grammatical errors which render some sentences quite incomprehensible. FaramRK (talk) 13:49, 23 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Overly exhaustive listing of institutions in Education section edit

I don't think we should list every single school in Siliguri. It seems half the Siliguri page is nothing but a listing of educational institutions. Only the most prominent institutions which have something special about them should be mentioned. It's Wikipedia, not a Siliguri municipal corporation list of educational institutions :) FaramRK (talk) 13:53, 23 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Population edit

Too much confusion regarding population. Each and every city has greater 'metro' population than 'UA/Metropolitan city' population. As 'metro area' is always greater than 'UA area'. According to this UA/metropolitan city population should be 513,264 and metro population should be 701,489 for Siliguri. Take a look into this issue @Fylindfotberserk:. Sourik8 (talk) 19:23, 20 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Sourik8: This source which quotes the number at 701,489 for UA is from "Census India" govt source so it is reliable. As far as 'metro' population is concerned, where did this '1,057,438' number come from? Even Census2011.com doesn't mention it. And Census2011 is unreliable. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 09:22, 21 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
